pics of the fog the other day

Friday morning the fog was extremely thick, coating the trees and everything else with frost. Snapped a couple pics of the trees at the end of my yard and our Lilac shrub.

The fog also caused a 38 car pileup on US HWY 41 on the North side of Kaukauna. Parents farm is on the South side of Kaukauna.

Sure a pretty sight, I saw some of the same pretty sights a few weeks ago when I had to go to Des Moines from Kansas City for truck parts.

Yah it was really bad up here too in polk county. i was driving to school and could barley see a cars length in front of me. Where there wasnt fog and you could accually see the scenery was neat with all the frost on the trees

As recently as yesterday they were still saying "We don't know what caused the crashes. Fog may have been a factor". DUHHH. Every time you have high speeds, close following traffic and a sudden fog bank, you have the recipe for this type of disaster. The last time I was on that highway I saw huge yellow signs warning about fog.

Before we bought our house I drove that stretch everyday, and I can say that the fog was thicker than I had ever seen on that one stretch. Get off onto 441 and it cleared right up, no fog in sight.

No fog warning lights on that stretch either. Only ones I know of are in Oshkosh near the water.

Basically what happened was drivers hit the fog, and hit their brakes because they couldn't see. Probably was fine until someone didn't hit their brakes because they thought they were fine in the fog, and then came up on someone driving the proper speed for the conditions and that started a chain reaction. Fog was so thick on my way to the farm, I could barely see a car's length in front of me in some areas, so I took it slow.

I guess the signs I'm thinking of are down on the bridge by Lake Butte des Mortes. They need more of them or flashing yellow warning signs when fog exists. Not hard to moniter that. Called RVR in the aviation business. Installed on every major airport runway in the country.
