OT...Help Me Get From Indy to Florida

We are going to Panama City for spring break. Looking at taking 65 south to Montgomery Al. Then I thought I would take 231 straight to Panama City. A neighbor said 231 was no good. It went through too many small towns. He suggested going on down 65 and doubling back toward 10 in Florida. Anybody made this trip or live in the area that might know a good way? Thanks for any help.

If it was me,I'd take slower road.I like the slow pace, and love the 'local color'.You don't get that on the freeway. Witchever way you go,have agreat trip!

Ive made the trip manyyyyyyyyy times and the most recent was only about 7 weeks ago (on way to Sebring where I am now, Im too oldddddddd for spring break lol, I cant risk getting my eyeballs burned) . Id take 231 South from Montgomery if it were me...Hey you may see some young college damsels in distress along 231 and being a gentleman Im sure you will assist them ??????????

Go to "get directions" and type in your starting point. Then "add destination" and type in your next stop. It'll keep you on the interstates. Quick, passing lanes for slower traffic, services, etc.

Delta's got a point, this way aint no way to see anything. This is getting where you want to be.

Funny how my Garmin, Microsoft Streets & Trips and Google.maps can come up with different ways too.

its been 15yrs. so alot may have changed .. always enjoyed going thru montgomery and thwe pulpwood hauling hiway of 231 ... 231 is the most direct route , used to run to panama city and ft walton to escape winter in feb .... wife and i could do the drive in 8hrs from louisville ky .. STAFFS Seafood was a MUST stop at Ft. WAlton ... does anyone know if the family is still running it Well ????

I'd take 231, but watch the signs as you come into small towns, south Ga and north Fl towns get alot of revenue from speeders. I'm just east of there 3 hours. Had several good spring breaks at the "Redneck Riviera" when I was going to the University of Florid Ag. School. Don't be stupid and fall off a balcony. Somebody's son or daughter does it every year.

I would but my wife would keep an eye on me. My 14 year old son would be more than willing to help also.

Well, I'm not too old for spring break.....lol. It starts a week from today and I'm ready. And I'm not going any place where there are a lot of teenagers, either.

I know alot of folks around hit 65 in Nashville, down to I20, then over to I75. If I was come'n from Indy on 65, I would take 64 over to 75 in Lexington and follow it down.

Good luck, don't get sun burnt, and don't bring any thing home kerosen won't take off.

You have a place in Sebring? Sure seems as a lot of Hoosiers migrate to that area during the winter. We (my grandpartents) and about 20 others from the immediate area have a winter home in Avon Park with few in Sebring.

That is a fine place to spend spring break. We always stayed at The Flamingo. Has a nice heated pool and is clean yet cheap. Hit up Club LaVela and Sharkeys!

I stay at Lake Bonnett Village RV Park (Jan Feb March) on SR 17 4 miles south of Avon Park...
