On a 1986 Dodge PU 318 engine, where is the ign control module located. It lost spark. The pickup coil has continuity & is not grounded, ign coil checks out good as well as the coil wire. It has voltage to the coil with the key on& will snap one spark when you turn the key off. I think it is the control module or wires in between. But so far we can't find it. Please help!
 
you should have a sliver box on the fire wall also you should have a blast resister on the fire wall that you should try to
 
The box on the fire wall is the voltage regulator. Resistor checks out ok. I am thinking it may be under the dash as all the wires we try to follow go to the cluster going through the firewall.
 
Crank it over with the dist cap off , make sure the rotor is turning . Pick up coil can have cont and still be bad . Check the reluctor wheel make sure it's not rubbing the coil . Test light on neg side of Ignition coil while cranking , should see light pulse ,if not pick up coil or wiring is bad .
 
its on the firewall over by where the steering column comes through. should have one bolt in the center of the plug that has the wires on it. sometimes they just loosen up, mine did and it wouldnt start at all, wiggled it and it ran great till i sold it. still see it on the road though, kinda hard to miss, i had painted it arctic cat green, very bright. good luck on your quest.
 
your diagnosis is correct...that single snap is the key...ignition module is on the firewall...could be any number of colors including gold,silver,and black...theres a big transistor out in plain sight.
 
Just went out and looked at mine. It is an 86 Dodge with a 360. It is just to the side of the steering column. Mine is a black box with a gold plate on the face. As others have stated check the ballust resistor also (both sides). Steven
