Picked up some land I was hoping to rent and doubled my acreage!! Now to figure what I am gonna plant and order seed and buy fertilizer before she climbs any more. Yes, I am excited, now I can buy a bigger digger!!!!

ha ha congrads!!! you really sound happy, i'm glad for ya, although i'd crap my pants as we speak if i doubled my acreage today...can barely do what i have. very happy for ya!

Hey, that's exciting for you! I know you've been hopeing for some more land to put crops in. Glad it worked out.

what was it in last year, crops or crp? if I remember right you have lots of chicken poop to spread on it ,good luck.your neighbor to the east.

Farming double the land only has one guarantee. You "could" go broke Twice Faster than you were about to.

I hope your business plan is better than the crowd I run with. Looked at grain prices lately? How about fert/fuel prices? Been to a land or equip auction lately? I have never seen such a stacked deck AGAINST the operators.

I have most acres of what I had contracted at a good price. For corn, I have enough chicken manure to fertlize 100+ acres, which is a big help, plus alot of cattle manure. We have regulr cash flow as a poultry grower, equipment is all paid for, albeit older equipment. I do agree/ inputs vs grain prices are quite off, but everything I make from cropping goes towards the mortgage, and next years inputs. I have been kinda playing and following alot advice from folks on here. I did quite well last year, and have more grain contracted at a higher price than I received on average last year. Seed cost are higher this year, but that is because I am doing round up ready rather than conventional to get weeds under control from previous renters. Watched my uncle lose the family farm in the 80's due to alcohol and over ambitios growth in the mid 80's. Wont let that happen here.

It was winter rye last year, spring wheat the year before, corn before that. Currently I am thinking I will do beans on 1/2 and and no till them in, maybe even the whole feild, gonna watch bean prices, right now I cant get a contract locally for over $8.03.
