O.T. Hauling Article

I know before I post this it will cause a lot of arguments. There was posted on here today a featured article about hauling equipment. I have know way of knowing about the author except he says he has hauled equipment for years. He wrote a good article but was very adamant about how to do the end of the chain at the truck or trailer.
His method was to go down thru the stake pocket an back up to the running end of the chain. I was imvolved with a very lengthly study of proper chain use in the late 70s . Sicence does not support his methods. The recomended method and the one proved most safe was to go down thru the pocket and bring the hook back up and hook down on the pocket or rail. We found chaining as he suggested put extra bends and force on links,
and in a overturn was more likely to come loose.
Is there any one else on here that has sicence or read any supported articles, as to oposed to just how you do it experience..What do you think guys..

WELL IN MY 17 YRS OF TRUCKING 6 OF WHICH AS A O/O I USE TO DO THE HOOK ON STAKE POCKET TRICK.THAT WAS UNTIL A FRIENDLY MICH DOT OFFICER GAVE ME A TICKET FOR IMPROPER LOAD SECURMENT. AT THE TUNE OF $400 , WENT TO COURT AND WAS SCHOOLED THE FED RULES CLEARLY STATES A CHAIN MUST BE HOOKED TO IT'S SELF THEN BOUND. SOME FAST TALKING AND MY WALLET $230 LIGHTER I HOOK MY CHAINS TO THEM SELVES.

That is just what I wanted to hear. You must know what your are talking about. BUT I made two calls before I wrote the post and both say law is not that way. I want to look more because I think when we were discussing this on here before you or someone made the post that they had been fined for NOT going back to the chain,,Maybe we can get to the bottom of this.. Thanks for the reply,I am sure not going to argue the LAW may just come down to what dot officer you get..

Hence the name super trucker. Thats a good way to do it if you like your load to come loose.
