I know I am going to get beat up for this: Here it goes.
A friend of mine would like to know what would be a nice used all around utility tractor:
To pull a bush hog, plow snow, us a post digger,
to put a cherry picker on it to pull engines, plow
a small guarden, pull a small bailer, pull a sickle mower and a rake.and he dose not care what make or color. NOW go easy on me OK, Im just trying to help a friend out.

i'm real happy with my Mahindra 6000...had 147 hours on it when i bought it in '07...60 hp,came with loader,6' shredder,2 sets of rear wheel weights, and a bale spear for loader...delivered to my front door for a tad over 15k...it had a box blade in deal too but i traded it for delivery...around 300 miles...other than a battery and fluid changes,i just been runnin the snot out of it.

Well if talking mordern (diesel pre 1980's) cant help you much. Antique the oliver 550-55 is very good. Some later masseys and fords too.

I have had real good luck with my ford 3000 a little light in the front and probably to small for a baler but easy to work on and fuel efficient. If you want an older tractor i would recommend a John Deere 520 or 530.

I have an uncle who bought one of these Fords new in the early 70s for just this purpose. He liked to garden, they always mowed about a 5 acre yard with a finish mower, they plow an 1/8 mile drive with it when it snows. His tractor is now at least 35 years old and just does great.

135 150 165 would do The 150 set up alittle higher like a 165 does an its easy on fuel if its a desiel can't comment on the gas version A 2000 or 3000 Ford would be good

I don't know of the availability in your area, but if a guy goes with a 5000 Ford you get more tractor for the money. Around here a 4000 and a 5000 cost about the same. Something to check in to.

Before retirement I was pondering what tractor to keep or get a newer one for utility purposes.
I had a TO30 Ferguson and a Ford 2000. I had 3pt equipment. The draw back with the Ferguson was no live power. The 2000 was a later model and had lpto,4x2 tranny, 3cyl gas engine,ps and
dont rember what else. Oh ya, a flat belt pulley for the Ferguson. Guess I would have kept them both.

But a 40-45 hp Ford or Ferguson(Massey Ferguson) would be your best bet.

I use a 3000 D to pull a sq. baler and wagon on flat ground without a problem . Drop them on the ground when it gets hilly .

Way to many to list but to me the one on top of the list would be an Oliver Super 55 but then that is one I have always wanted to own. In the same HP range would also be the 601/801 series fords then the MF 35/65. But as I said the top is the Oliver good all round tractor live PTO and hyds and small but with a good bit of pull

IMHO, the best all around utility tractor ever built. MF150. Has most of the advantages of the MF165, along with the fuel economy of the MF135. When it was originally tested at Univ of Nebraska, the 150 diesel was the most fuel efficient tractor ever tested. Not many has surpassed it since. You can force a gallon of fuel an hour through it plowing. By being a bit longer wheel base than a 135, and slightly heavier, it handles loads on the 3-point hitch better. Heavier front axle works better should you ever install a loader.

Meant to say you CAN'T force a gallon of fuel an hour through it while plowing.

I've owned a couple 3000 Fords during the time I've owned this tractor. The 150 will work circles around the 3000's, and on less fuel to boot. 3000's aren't bad tractors, just no match for a 150.

Thankya! That picture is almost 3 years old. The 150 is used quite a bit, but the paint is holding up real well. It does about 150 hours of bush hogging and hay work a summer nowday. I plow about 5 acres a year and then run a 6' tiller through the same ground. And this year it's shoved quite a bit of snow. It's been here since 1971. I've got newer and bigger tractors. Still like this one the best. Other than oil changes, the occasional grease job, a new fan belt 2 summers past, and a small oil leak at the oil pressure gauge last summer, I haven't touched a wrench to it in 3 years.

Nice looking tractor you got there My uncles has a 150 an in 1995 he completly restored it Took ever nut an bolt out right down to an empty rear end/differential housing

Lot of good models listed below.
But you gotta give us more to go on. Like how many HP does he need? How thick is his wallet?
Is he looking for a classic - ie pre 65 or a modern - post 65 tractor? Or maybe a 2000 and newer tractor??
The things you describe him doing with it probably don't need much over 40 hp. Bigger aint always better in the tractor world.
My vote is for a 3000, 3600 or 3910 Ford. Maybe after that a Massey 135.
Keep in mind that this is Yesterday's tractor site so anything really modern is a little off our radar.

Massey Sure had a MOST handsome tractor with that style ,, I ran a nice 165 diesel the neighbor had ,, turned out to be a good shop tractor ,. LOL .and ,Dads 430 Case would pinch hit whenever the pretty red one needed to take a powder room break ..Case is more versatile , and dependable any in the 200 thru 630 series ...

Type: 12-speed 2WD

Engine: diesel

PTO power (rated engine speed): 37.88 hp [28.2 kW]

PTO fuel use (engine speed): 2.1 gal/hour [7.9 l/hour]

PTO power (rated PTO speed): 35.38 hp [26.4 kW]

Drawbar power (max): 33.07 hp [24.7 kW]

Drawbar fuel use (max): 2.2 gal/hour [8.3 l/hour]

Never found that to be true with Case. I had a 530. Only reason it stayed here as long as it did was we couldn't keep it running long enough to sell it.
