Wrong footed-ness

Occasionally I have a disconnect between foot and brain, resulting in maybe getting the accelarator when I meant to hit the brake pedal. Wondering if any companies had ever attempted in the past to separate the two pedals??

When I have my boots on I have the same problem in my small truck I hit both at the same time which bugs me. Sure wish I could sell this little truck with the automatic and find one with a standard I sure do hate automatics LOL and the big brake pedal they always seem to have

As I recall the predominant education was to NEVER use your left foot on the brake in an automatic. As someone who had run things with levers and pedals all over the place, I said phooey on that and developed the habit of braking with my left foot in automatics.
That was 4 decades ago. Hopefully as my mind ages the successful habit will stay with me !

I hate driving automatics (no offense to anybody that has one) My parnent,sister,bother-in-laws, cousin all have autos I'm use to driving a staight shift When I get in one of there vehiecal an move it I always hit the break think its the clutch an bout throw myself through the windshield

Old It doesn't matter if it is an automatic or standard. In my Datsun PU with my boots on I still hit the brake ocassionally. There just isn't enough room in the little pickups.

Yep I know but seems worse in one with an automatic. Still remember doing a panic stop in a car I once had that was auto and at the time I also had one that was a standard well I hit the brake pedal with both feet and about threw my self out the wind shield or so it seemed. Some how since I drove standard more when I had that panic stop problem come up I tried to hit the clutch pedal which of couse was not there and got the brake with both feet

Drove my pals model A couple summers ago. Brain fart and I was thinking of s10 with 5 speed. Light changed and I went backwards. He forgave me. Last model A before this was 25 years ago. I did fine then. All cars should have same shift pattern. According to me anyway. Dave

Ford Auto...On three occasions I have slipped my foot off the accelerator over to the brake and pressed the brake but half my boot is still on the accelerator so when I press, the vehicle tends to speed up., controls are too close, bit hairy when entering the garage.
often see where oldies have mounted the footpath and hit shop windows, this maybe what they are doing.

There used to be a series of freightliner trucks that the throttle was close to the brake pedal, and the pedal was tight to the side of the doghouse. It was rough for someone like me with a wide foot to drive that one. I switch from Peterbuilt truck to forklift, to Moffet forklift (left foot controls speed and direction), to std. trans pickup, to auto trans. car. Everything is a different foot combination. It took a little while to figure it out.

When I joined the Army the Jeep was still the vehicle along with a Dodge truck. Never drove the Dodge's but was driving Jeeps daily. Along comes the Hummer a couple years later. Was driving one of them on a (THE at the time) highway in Korea. Had been driving a while and kinda forgot where I was. Was getting a little close to some other vehicles and was going to downshift...... BOY...Did them Humers have good brakes!!! My boss was on the passenger side and, up until that day, always wore his steel pot pushed back like John Wayne. If he's still alive, he's got a nice "remember Dave" scar on the forehead........
