Making a radiator?

Anyone built their own radiator? I recently bought an Allis D17 and am in the process of replacing the rings, pistons and sleeves. The radiator does not leak, but it is missing quite a few of the fins and it looks like it's been poked by some limbs or re-bar and then patched back together. It's pretty dented and banged up too.

New radiators are around $600, and I've found some used ones in the $250+ range.

I thought about making my own, or modifying an existing one to fit. If it doesn't work, I'd put the original one back in. The original one looks like it doesn't have much life left in it though.

Has anyone ever done something like this?

I would not want to chance overheating a new rebuild on a "patched up" radiator. Recore it or replace it, You will be glad you did!!!!!!

A good radiator shop should be able to replace the core while reusing tanks, frame etc.
I have had that done on a hard to get radiator for about 1/2 the price of new.
