It started snowing here just after 2:30, big wet flakes. The kids went nuts....lol. Some have never seen snow. I doubt it'll stick until after dark, when the temp drops. All after-school activities have been cancelled. I'm glad I don't drive a bus this afternoon. Elementary lets out after four o'clock. Probably nothing worse on icy roads than a school bus.

Keep it down your way. If you don't the next time you say something I'll go out and turn on the big fan and point it south west to keep it down your way LOL

I grew up in one of the little hill towns in New England in the 50's- 60's and sometimes when the school bus could not make the hills on a snowy day the driver would get all the kids to sit in the rear of the bus for the added weight over the rear wheels. It usually worked too. All the kids used to like to sit at the back because the frost heaves in the road were bad enough to cause the kids to come right up out of their seats. (bs- before seatbelts)
Not too many snow days or canceled activities either.

Wife's SIL said they have had six inches in Palestine. It just started snowing here in The Woodlands a few minutes ago, about 4:50. Nothing sticking yet, temp is 34.

I know that in the Colorado mountains, the snow plows clear the school bus routes first. I think their buses use either studded tires or chains. Their drivers are used to it and know how to handle it. It's the almost empty buses that scare me. Most of these school bus drivers down here have trouble with rain.I grew up driving on muddy roads on the farm and have a fair amount of experience on snow and ice in Colorado, so I can handle it better than most. I sure don't want anything to do with black ice though.

As reported in a previous post, not much here in Dallas.

Was some on the hood and windshield this morning.

Just a little cool North wind all day.

Figured y'all would get snow down around Houston.

Be sure to take photos; might not snow again in your area this week!

I remember those days as a kid riding on the bus.

First one on in the morning an last one off in the afternoon.

Lived 4 miles from school and the bus route was almost 30 miles one way!

As elementary kids several of us would fight over sitting in the seats over the back wheels/tires.

Bus driver, Mr. Harold Edwards, drove that IH bus like a bat-outa-he11.

Everytime the bus hit a bump; we'd become airborne about 6-12 inches.

Every time he'd get on to us about laughing and screaming on the bumps, we'd tell him to slow down.

Thanks for the memory and the smile on my face.

Got 8 inches or more in central Texas. Melted most of the day so only have about 4 left. Beautiful day. Sun and south wind tomorrow so it won't last long.

March is supposed to come in lake a lion. That sounds good if the wind is from the south. The trail riders are on the road to the Houston Livestock Show. They usually have bad weather. Maybe next week, spring will put in an appearance. The Mississippi River is going to have to carry a lot of water this spring.

James,
Thank you for the memories!

DAD drove a school bus for our small school district and sometimes drove to the high school basketball games. Course the players and cheerleaders rode the same bus - guess that's why we sat more to the back!

Just wished I wouldn't have picked the one that became my first wife (after college) - Wicked Woman of Central Illinois!

Just got back from Palestine this morning. Still lots of snow over there. Picked up the injector pump I was waiting on. Now waiting on the snow to melt and the air to warm up. So I can get back to work. Got around four to eight inches here in Centerville. Even have some people playing pinball with the bridge rails.
