1961 4010 Diesel

Just wondering, I have a 1961 John Deere 4010 Diesel tractor with a 148 Loader. It is in excellent shape with new clutches. Does anyone know what this is worth? I know there were only 1000 of them made.

I said that is what my book told me and that is only for 1961. Tell me then, how many did they make?

Ok if the serial numbers in 1961 go from 1000 to 20201. How many is that? My math says 19201.
Total number made 1961-1963 is 59313.

The book I have says 1000 for 61, 20201 for 62, and 38200 for 63 for a total of 59401, so I don't know what you are talking about. I'm just trying to figure out a price, but I will try those websites, thankyou.

That's total serial number range according to the article in Jan/Feb 2008 two cylinder magazine. Actual tractor numbers built of all 4010 were 57,572 of which 48,583 were diesel.

SN range was 1000 to 22199 in 1961.
22200-38199 in 1962.
38200-59212 in 1963 it says, but elsewhere on the page it shows the last SN for diesel was 59313 and for lp was 59319.

That's what Old was talking about the other day. She asked WHAT IS IT WORTH. Instead of giving her an answer, you started going on about serial numbers & neither one of you gave her an answer on the value. I'm sorry, I don't know the value of the tractor, but you could probably get a pretty good idea on tractorhouse. Keith

Depending on it's condition of sheet metal & tires. Whether it has a wide frt axle & 3pt hitch. Location of tractor also affects price.

Assuming it it's good cosmetic shape with a 148 loader $7000-$9000

No, you are wrong. She mistakenly thinks she has struck gold with some rare beast but in reality has something as common as dog hair and needs to understand why she won’t be able to retire on this one.

That may be, and I agree with you. However, no one has answered her question yet. What is the tractor worth. That being said an explanation of the numerous tractors and how to understand the serial number sequenses could have been given. Obvioussly, she doesn't have the years of experience or knowledge that some on here do, that's why she asked the question & in my mind, should have been given a good answer to her question. Just my thoughts, not wanting to stir anything. Keith

Rhonda, my suggestion is that you re-post on the John Deere board, and provide much more information plus a photo if possible. How long you owned it, hours, work it has been used for, tire condition, 3-point, maintenance you have done, serial numbers, etc. You will get more accurate estimates with more info and photo provided. This thread is a prime example of why you should never come to these forums and expect to get a real answer.

The last ones I've seen sell brought in the mid $5000's. Add $1500 or so for the loader. Overall condition and tires may add some. I'd not expect to get much if anything extra for the new clutches though if they were slipping I'd expect it to be seriously discounted. Repairs are like sick animals, if you have a cow worth 700 and she's real sick she may only be worth 100. You can spend a thousand dollars on vet bills but its still a 700 dollar cow.

I agree on that value. SN 1000 would be worth a bunch, but I presume its been collected for 20 years. SN 59313 would be worth a bunch but its probably in the Deere collection.
