4010 JD Overhaul

I have some oil seeping from the weep holes on my 4010 JD. someone told me that that indicated that the engine needed an overhaul. Does anyone know anything about this?

And, does anyone know anything about "rolling in" cam shaft bearings? i was told that you can overhaul the entire engine without taking the block out of the tractor. does anyone know anything about this?

A few years ago a guy brought me a 4010 doing
this. Pulled sleeves and replaced o-rings on
the sleeves.

Its unusual for oil to come from the weep holes. It is usually antifreeze that leaks first. You can do a much better job if you pull the engine. Its always a good idea to replace the rear crankshaft seal so you have to split the tractor to do that and it doesn"t take much more work to pull the block out. I like power wash the block once the sleeves are removed and then it is easy to turn the block over and wash the bottom side as well. You cannot roll the camshaft bearing out. He must have meant to say roll the main bearings out which you can do.

Clean the o-ring groves out and look for pitting. If you are careful, any pitts can be repaired with JB Weld.Just be sure the groves are smooth when repaired.

I am more than a bit particular about overhauls(lol) and I make it a practice to run a tap in ALL holes and clean all bolts on a wire wheel.
Take a look at the oil pump drive gear on the camshaft. If the teeth are sharp. it is a good idea to replace the cam and the oil pump drive shaft.

If you just want it to stop leaking, you can chance it and simply plug the weep holes.

double check to see if it infact oil. it should be antifreeze
