Had a funny thing happen to my truck today

Was taking another hay bale up to my neighbors place and some one else was coming in the driveway. No big deal I would pull over and let them by but hit the clutch pedal and it went to the floor and stayed on the floor but did not release. Got it out of gear and stopped and let the guy go by. I popped the hood and looked down and the clutch pedal spring had fell off and let the rod that sits in the clutch release arm fall down and out so no clutch. Sure glad it happened on the drive way instead of in town some place. And boy is it no fun to crawl under that truck when it is so cold and wet out. Shoulder is still wet from being under the truck and I had a piece of card board to lay on even

Try changing your shirt and see if it dries your shoulder out.

I broke a clutch cable on a car once about 3 hours from home with a date.
Had to shut it off at stops, put it in gear before starting, and get the RPM's just right to shift. Got pretty good by the time I got home and drove that thing around another few weeks before changing the cable.
 
I have never had a clutch rod fall off, buy my 65 VW would break a cable about every year or so. I think it rubbed on something inside the tunnel. I got fairly driving with out a clutch until I got home. stan
 
That"s why I carry an old, cheap raincoat to lay on. Another option is a large plastic trash bag.
 
I had a clutch slave cylinder fail on me while I was waiting at a red light. It was so rusted that it sprung a leak, drained the fluid, and reengaged the clutch. Fortunately my other foot was still on the brake and it didn't move to far into the intersection. It's one of those weird issues you hope never happens again.
 

Hydraulic line from clutch master to slave cylinder broke. Tractor(Zetor) wound up further down hill than I wanted it to be and is still there. $72 worth of new line is here on the table as I type. It has rained also so working on it with mud around won't be fun. Oh BTW, the tractor wound up in a briar patch, making things more fun. At least no snow.

BIL won a bet one time, that he couldn't drive his stick shift '55 Merc halfway across the state without clutch. Its pretty easy once you get the hang of it- just apply light pressure to the synchros, and it will slip into gear when the RPMs are right. Apply a little heavier pressure, and you get to put in new synchros.
 
I had the card board and a rain slicker on the ground and I still get my right shoulder wet but I did have to fight the spring a bit to get it hooked back up like it needed to be
 
Guess your not a truck driver then LOL. Most over the road drivers never touch the clutch pedal once the truck is rolling. As for my truck most of the time I only use the clutch when starting off and stopping other wise I almost never push the pedal down but it has the old cast iron 4 speed with a cast iron transfer case on behind
 
Around 20 yrs ago had a clutch put in a IH semi at the local IH tractor dealer. Cost 600 dollars and the boys took a load to the easr coast picked up another load and headed to Florida wwhen the clutch went out. Told them to take it on down and come home empty. Put it in our shop made a carriage to roll on the frame and backed it up and installed another clutch for 60 dollars. About 3 hrs and they were on their way again with no more trouble.
 
Old I had a slave unit go out on a 238 with a 10 spd RR trans. Drove from Lexington KY to Huntington WV with no clutch. Would start in 1 st gear then shift all the way up and down. I was hauling Bedbugs never over 52,000 lbs.
 
Had it happen to me in a Dad's 60 Chevrolet pickup while headed out drive when I was about 16 or 17. The line to the skave cylinder blew and drained the resevoir. Thing is on these trucks the reservoir was shared with the brakes so when one went the other went also. Fortunately I wasn't horsing around so I was going slow enough to cut the truck off and bump it into a phone pole and stop before running out across the road.
 
Right since the clutch stuff is on the left right of the truck and being under the drivers door area it was easy the get the right should off into the wet stuff
 
sounds like ya got a a mid70s Ford with a broken motor mount LOL.., 20 yrs ago , My 76 Ford 3 sp. Dropped the clutch rod with a load of hogs , Did not realize that until I got to town with a train coming alongside angling a turn that followed down the middle of the street for some 5 blocks , I switched off the key and Stomped the Brakes, sure didnt want to be a part of the sausage making ,. broken motor mount caused everything!
 
Around 1968 or 69 I had a "sharp looking" RED 65 Chevy Impala 2 door hardtop w/ 283 three speed on the column. I pulled out turning left from a gravel road one day and when the spinning tires hit the pavement the drivers side motor mount broke and hung the throttle wide open and dropped the clutch linkage between the frame and engine. AWAY WE WENT! I turned the ignition off and the engine dropped back down on the broken support. I drove it home by starting it in first gear and shifting by putting it in neutral and patting the gas while holding it towards second and then third. Jacked the engine up and changed the motor support while reinstalling the clutch "knuckle". Learned of a recall a little later and carried to the local Chevy dealer. They put a 5/16" or so cable around the frame and through the metal on the motor support. David....................
 
Ya funny how things like that happen when your young, dumb and full of$$$ as the old saying goes. I blew a rear end one time when my brakes didn't want to work as well as I needed by dropping the clutch from 3rd the 2nd at around 70mph and the rear end sort of let loose. Drove it home with this odd sort of jump in it sort of hit and miss in the rear end
 
Nope 1980 Chev heavy half 350 with 4 speed 4X4. Spring came loose off the clutch throw out bearing arm and let it move back enough to the clutch linkage to drop out of place. 5 minute fix but as wet as it has been not a fun fix
