young nieghbor boy lost brakes on way home put atf in master cly too get home . any ideas its a 95 chevy pickup

If the system is IMMEDIATELY flushed out, there's an outside chance it can be salvaged without spending close to a thousand bucks. I'm pretty sure that '95 has four-wheel antilock brakes, meaning it's going to be expensive to replace all the parts.

My son put power steering fluid in the brake reservoir of my '88 Chevy, and I didn't realize it until a returned a week later. Here's what I had to do:
1. Replaced master cylinder.
2. Replaced proportioning valve.
3. Replaced antilock brake unloading valve.
4. Replaced rear wheel cylinders.
5. Disassembled and cleaned front brake calipers.

That was about 400 bucks, doing the work myself. And my truck had only rear-wheel antilock brakes.

I agree, saw power steering fluid added to a 1990 chevy pickups master cylinder.Anything rubber in the system started to melt and turn soft. bill m.

If he gets it out yesterday and flushes the system he maybe ok but not likely. I'll bet in less then a year he will be replacing the master cylinder and all the wheel cylinders, but he may luck out. Years ago I got a Datsun B210 that the guy had used motor oil in the master and of course it had no brakes and I think after I replace the master and drained all the lines every thing was ok but can not remember for sure since that was back around 1995 still have that car parked out back
