Train wreck

I don't have any stories about live animal traps or record amounts of snow. I do however have a 56 car train wreck a few miles away near Rivers, Manitoba,Canada. Like everyone else with nothing better to do (it is winter, you know), I'll likely go take a look at it this morning. Apparently mostly potash cars that got derailed, but the wreck is delaying passenger service....many of whom are trying to get to the Olympics in Vancouver. No problem, they'll be attending the closing ceremonies instead of the opening.

I suppose given a choice, I'd rather be involved in or delayed by a train wreck instead of a plane wreak

Just got back, and they do have a spectacular wreck. The hopper cars are totalled, kind of accordianed into a couple of piles. The track has been repaired and they are busy piling potash, of course it has a bit of frozen dirt, some snow and a certain amount of scrap iron in it now. I counted eleven cats, four track hoes and a few payloaders at the wreck sight. Besides that there is the track repair equipment. BTW potash is not an essential part of the general fertilizer program in this area. It is mined less than 100 miles away, we're not exactly short of it.

KRUSS1,

Not sure i"d want to travel on CN rail tracks, that"s the second major derailment in the last 3 months on that section of line... (Spy Hill is the same sub-division). Not sure how CN seems to have so many more problems than CP... makes you wonder about the management/maintenance of the company...

Just a little off your thread but here in the US there is a railway emergency contractor nearby that has some awesome heavy equipment to pick up cars and clean up debris and when they are called out they get a police escort taking up both lanes of a four lane highway they are awsesome to watch at work but usually the rail company doesn"t allow pictures if the rail official people are around.
