To fellow Kentuckains or anyone thats know anything about it Anybody know whats going on with Phillip Morris Bale Marketing in Elizabethtown I herd they where going to big bales an big bales only I'm not a big tobacco farm about 8000lb So I don't have the funds to put into the big bale equipment I've talk to a couple of guy an they said they don't have a clue as to what there gonna do If anyone knows anything I'd sure like to hear THANKS
 
You can probably pick up a good used baler cheap in eastern NC. Tobacco farmers down here are dropping like flies.
 
Don't think it's PM ,it's the receiving station operators wanting to cut back on the labor for unloading the small bales.Check around at other receiving stations and I think you will find one that will take your small bales.
 
It would be a haul for you but I heard in line at UST last week that Conwood is take'n on new contracts. Story was they got a 1 million + pound export contract for next year and was need'n growers. I don't have the number on me and I am still on the fence about start'n back with burley. I never had much burley to start with and couldn't get a contract before the buyout, should jump on the wagon but most likely stick with just dark and hope the new UST ain't as bad as every one thinks they will get to be.

I sell to PM at Frankfort and this receving station is closeing. The tobacco farmers are trying everything to get a contract with any company they can find with very little success. Phillip Moriss is the big boy so until they move nobody moves! I have used big bales for two yrs. now and like it ok late in the year but it is hard to keep the moisture down early when the tobacco is'nt cured complety. Big bales may be the only way to go with this co, but it's all just rumors so far! gary
 
I am not sure what all Conwood makes but they used to be a big buyer of dark air cured at the auction houses and I was told they are now taking burley contracts.
