Looking to go down that way in early April. Anyone from down that way have tips on things to do/see or visit. Great local restruants etc.

Planning on Ft. Donnelson, and the LBL exhibits, any other ideas...

Live 5 minutes from the southern entrance THE TRACE at Dover Tn.
Everybod here thinks Patties is really over rated, you usuall have to have rev.. ahead to get in. You probably want to do it once. On the South end right acroos from the Entrance to Fort Donaldson is Wilsons steak house. The bet there is any where, locals also rave about the CAT FISH at Cindys catfish 2 mi west from dover on US 79... E-mail me back a phone number and I will give you a call.. Jerry

We were lucky enough to be abel to retire where
ever we wanted and have travled the world over
and chose this rural area for several reasons.
Low cost of living.. wonderfull people. all
in all ust a wonderfull place If I got things right..a photo of what is out my front door tonight...My first atempt at attaching photo on here.. Jerry

Patti's is way over rated and over priced, if you are by your self pass it up. Your wife will love it. It has gotten pretty fancy since the generational transition. (Fruits get'n rich sell'n porkchops and trinkets, not my idea of a good time)

Out 641 between Ky Dam and Draffenville there is a little catfish joint that is the best food for the $ down that away.

There is an old fasion ice cream/fast food type joint in Arora called Belew's (sp?), that is a must stop that time of year. (The Brass Lantern is just down the hill from it and it is more overpriced with worse food than Patti's.)

Spend a few bucks and drive through the elk and buffalo pen and take your camera.

Don't know how long your going to be there but there is real big consignment sale in Mayfield the first or second Saturday in April. Google James R Cash and look and find the date.

Be carefull try'n to drive around that time of year. LBL's turkey season starts around then and the grandpa's will be pulling Crappie boats every where bout then too. I lived out on Blood River when I was going to school at Murray and about the first of April I had to give my self extra time to get to class the last week of March.

The 1850's farm in LBL is worth the cost to get in and is a fun two hours of walk'n around.

If your a Bar-b-q connoisseur Knoth's there in Lake City has some great pulled pork. They have a real sweet sauce that I have never had any where else. They should be open around the first of April.

I know this is a real random list but I just wrote stuff down as I thought of it, if I think of any thing else I will let you know. If you have any more questions my email is open.

Just southeast is the Pearl Museum & mussel beds at Birdsong TN & Loretta Lynn's Ranch at Hurricane Creek TN; southwest is Dixie Gunworks at Union City TN (old car museum & cannon, muzzleloader works). All have websites to visit.

Dave, the Brass Lantern was closed the last time I was in Aurora, but the BBQ joint at the top of the hill in Aurora has good eats. It might be the ice cream place you mentioned.

You guys sound like you don't like Pattie's, but I like the chops and the pie. I do agree - it's a place the wimmin really like, and if momma's happy, well you know the rest. . .

I like the 400 mile yard sale too - I think it's in early June??

We try to go down there every year for the Bluegrass Festival at Aurora.

Also - there's a Bald Eagle nest on top of the west end of the bridge over Kentucky Lake, just south of Aurora. Not something to stop in the highway and gawk at, but still interesting.

A very nice area.

The Brass Lantern should have closed years ago!! Dated a girl that liked that place and they could screw up a salad.

I forgot about the bar-b-q joint in Aroura, can't think of the name of it be recall the big pink pig on the sign. Good eats.

The place in Aroura I just can's pass up is Belew's Dairy Bar. Best milk shakes I ever had, and not to sound like a dirty old man but you have to remember most of my time down there was in college, but Belew's must pay it's help pretty good cause for the years I was around there they never hired an ugly girl.
