SALINA, Kan. - A 40-year-old central Kansas man has died after a small tractor tipped over on top of him in a pasture.

The Saline County Sheriff's Office says Norman Giroux of Bridgeport was towing the burned wreck of a Jeep from the pasture when the tractor flipped backward on top of him.

Sheriff's Capt. Brian Shea says the man's teenage son witnessed the accident east of Mentor and called authorities.

Shea says the 1950s-era International Harvester Farmall flipped over after the Jeep caught on a rut in the field.

That is really a freak accident. On a side note, it is tractor related. Doesn't seem many post in tractor talk is tractor related lately.

Sad that someone died. He probably had the chain on the axle or somewhere else higher up. I guess N series Fords aren't the only tractors to go over backwards when used improperly. Dave

Gene, This is tractor stuff - anytime there is a tragedy, we all need to pause a moment, think it over, and try to see that it never happens to us.
A moment of thought about his people and their loss is appropriate too.
