When you have a Sthil you can make fast work out of any log. A few minutes and I have splitable firewood.

we burn about 25 loads a year and cut some for others as well i bought a 029 in 1994 it's the only saw i have used since

We had a very large oak tree go down over a year ago.

We bought the Stihl 441 just for that cleanup job; sure do like those Stihl saws.

Jay - where are you at? Looks about like the snow cover we have here in Tioga County.

That looks like hickory, right? Bet that made your teeth chatter!

Tim

We thought about buying one like yours but we ended up buying a 440 Magnum because we got $80 off because they wee going to the 441. I've had some days when I wished I had that extra power, though. Nice work on the tree. Do you sharpen your own chains?

I've heard that the 441 is a new generation engine that gives you more power for less gas. I'm sure you'll find more things to do with it one of these days. I remember you posted a picture of the tree, I think.

How does it split around those big limbs? When the blocks get up around that size it seems there is more work wrestling them around for splitting than the cutting.

If that is like our ash, you can split it with that pitch fork. Our Ash has few limbs, and you can burn it green as can be as there is no creasote. The best wood for firewood hands down, not to mention mushrooms.

The horse equipment alyways used ash for the straight grain.

We never use the splitter on ash, but that is the only one that we split by hand.

Would have made a good saw log.Sad to see logs burnt up as firewood.Door and window trim and kitchen cabinets comes to mind.
