Ha Guys. Ask your wife how she cleans the bottom side of her iron. My wife is doing some Quilting & has something burnt on the bottom of her iron & she says finger nail polish remover won't take it off. She thinks it is the sticky stuff from a applicay. What should she use. Gerald

There is special stuff that comes in small tubes made for cleaning irons. Check with the local drugstore or one of those Bed bath and beyond places. It is only a buck or two a tube as I remember. It will take all kinds of sticky, nasty crap off.

Why should we ask our wives; why not just ask us? Is there something unmanly about ironing? Bill(Wis) has done more ironing than I have flying..............

My wife says she'd try a paste of baking soda and water and husband's elbow grease. I knew I shouldn't have asked her!

Heat it up then wipe it off. Set the iron to the highest setting then try and wipe the goo off maybe even use a paper towel with some acetone or laquer thinner on it while it is hot.

Insomnia.. cup of hot milk at bedtime with honey and pinch of nutmeg or cinnamon. Just incase this problem keeps you awake.

Irons.....

a. clean the inside of a steam iron by filling with a mixture of 2 dessertspoons of white wine vinegar add dessertspoon distilled water. put the hot iron on a cake cooler covered with old linen.

b.A sticky iron can be made to operate smoothly if run back and forth , while hot, over a sheet of paper on which salt has been sprinkled generously.

c.remove brown stains by rubbing with a cut lemon when cold. wipe with damp cloth, polish with dry one.

d.remove rust marks by rubbing with petroleum jelly, leave for two days, clean off with ammonia.

From and old survival book..

Just asked my wife, the quilter in the family, and she said to wad up a piece of wax paper and run it over the bottom of the iron after it is heated up. Then put an old sheet or towel on the ironing board and work it back and forth and it will come off. She said acouple of layers thick on the board will keep the wax and whatever from coming through to the ironing board. Says it works like a charm. Butch-IA
