I'll probably regret asking and I apologize if this is a new version of an old question, but... The workhorse on our farm is a 1972 Deutz D4006, diesel engine, air cooled; the usual for Deutz and all around great tractor. The owner's manual calls for 30W engine oil above 68 degrees F (converting from C), 10W below 14 degrees F, and 20W20 for everything in between. Wouldn't 10W30 cover the entire range? What would you do if it were your tractor?

Hi RockRon: There is another reason I am switching to Rotella T and that is the big reduction of Zinc in most other brands of oil. I added a link to one post about it. Another comment is that there is a 10w-30 in Rotella for colder weather. Oil can be a hot button topic so I'll stop. To each their own. Google the topic. ag
Much less Zinc in most oil

1. Mobil Delvac 1300 15W40
2. Chevron Delo 15W40
3. Shell Rotella 15W40
All 3 are dino oil made for diesel engines

4. Mobil Delvac One 5W40
full synthetic for diesel engines
