Problems with this site

I check with this site several times a day--really enjoy. However I have problems with very slow loading of most pages and, for instance, when I am in the "Tractor Talk" and I want to return to "Tool Talk, it hangs up and will eventually return.
Yesterday, I tried to reply to a post and finally gave up after it wouldn't transfer.
I go to several other forums and I have no such problems.
I really would like to solve this problem if anyone could suggest a fix.

Are you using dialup??? Never had it but hear it's slow. When is the last time you cleared your temp files and cookies? Sometimes that helps. I have real slow responses to this site now and then also. Won't hurt to dump your temps and cookies though.

Dave2 is right,I dup my cookie jar at lest two times a day it just depends on how much web surffing I do in one day.
I have all so been told if you do not clean your cookies out on a regular basses you can give your self a vires. I do not know that to be true
so I my self cmb. OK , GOOD LUCK, and yes if you
do not DSL it will slow you down.

The problem is caused by the incredibly heavy useage of this website, somewhere on the home page I saw a note that said there are over 250,000 registered users on this site and that doesnt include the nonregistered users that come here on a reguler basis. Kim cannot install servers fast enough to keep up with demand. this useage also requires a huge amount of bandwidth to handle the traffic that occurs at any given time. think of it as trying to run 10,000 cars down a two lane road every hour.

Jiles,

I also use dial-up for my internet access. I have a 56K modem,
but my phone service is so bad, it never connects at more than
26.4Kbps.

My response on YTMAG is the best of any of the sites that I visit.
I'm always pleased with it. I go to homesteading today dot com
also. It is VERY slow. I often just cancel out of it and go sort my
sock drawer instead of waiting.

Do you use the Modern view or the Traditional view? I use the
traditional.

Good luck,

Tom in TN

I am on High Speed Comcast--The fastest connections I have ever had. I regularly clean up my temp. files and cookies. In fact, I just did it resterday. This is a problem I have had for quite some time.
If most everyone is having this problem, it's not too big for me to deal with. It took almost a minute and half for my original post to load, and a full minute just to Preview. I am not in a big hurry but it is a little flustrating sometimes.

Good to know I'm not the only one who has time to go make a pot of coffee while I'm waiting for a reply to post.

Ironic as it took me about 24 seconds just to load this page. 19 seconds of wait after hitting the reply button.... who knows how long after I hit submit.

It comes and goes for me often. High speed here and is consistent across 2 different computers. It is obviously the site.

It is pretty rare that pages don't load in just 1 or 2 seconds for me, a little longer to make a post.

May I make a suggestion for all of you to try that have slowness problems with this site. Try using Firefox browser and use it with Java/Java Script turned off. I find most sites load a lot faster with J/JS turned off. I only turn it on when needed.

Think it doesn't make a difference? Try the site link with it on and with it off. It is a newspaper site.

When I travel I tether my cell phone to my computer for the Internet. It is slower than DSL but Tractor Talk is one of the easiest sites to load up. It is about ten times faster than my home town paper.

That is exactly what I am doing. Makes no difference. I have experimented with using Firefox or Internet Explorer, Java script on or off, I get the same results. Sometimes it loads lightning fast, sometimes I just give up and go to a totally different website.

t is the site/traffic. I have a very fast cable connection (usually 15 to 17 meg) and at times YT is just slow, while at same time other sites are lightening fast, and at other times YT is fast, too. Same here with different computers & Firefox, IE7 or IE8 or Win7 IE.

It is from the server. Here is a post from the moderators of this site.
