Ijust bought a 77 Oilver tractor and the starter
went out,and when I took it out the end of the
starter that goes in by the flywheel was broken
up and I need to know how I go about getting
the broken pieces out an inspect the flywheel
teeth is this a major project.

Thank you,

This happened to me on an MF 35 and I took a small magnet, tied a string to it and fished around in the bell housing with it. It took an hour or so to get all of the teeth out, but it wasn't too bad. No idea if that would work on an Oliver, though.

That maybe a fun project to pull those parts. A magnet on a stick sort of thing might work and with out going out and looking at my 77 I can not remember if there is a cover you can remove to get in there or not. But also if I remember right you can slide the bell housing back with out pulling the engine or much of any thing else so it may not be all that hard

I bought an Oliver 77 diesel that some one had tried to use a gas starter in it and it broke off the end and it lodged so the engine was locked. It took an afternoon to lift the engine out to retrieve the broken end and put it back in.
Just remember if you have never pulled an engine from an Oliver that you need to remove the power take off first as it's main shaft enters the flywheel.
