My '48 h will always start nice, even when cold, but after 45 mins starts to choke and cough and will quit until it cools off. temp gauge doesn't work but block never feels hot. carbs been rebuilt 1 year ago. oil pressure is always good. antifreeze circulates. anybody have any ideas? I need my tractor to run...

I have seen folks post that when te engin heats up and dies the condenser is often the problem

possible bad coil or condenser. If changed to 12 volt, do you have a resistor on the hot wire to the coil? Check points also

45 minutes is about right for a coil going bad. Take it out and run it. When it dies check for spark and also check to see if the coil is to hot to touch. If you do not have spark or it is a weak yellow spark then I'd bet your coil is going bad

Sounds like your coil is failing or you have another ignition issue. One thing is for sure, I'd fix that temp gauge right away. You can toast an engine before you know it by over heating it. It's crazy to take a chance on something so inexpensive.
