My friend has a dozer with a cummins engine and the alternator wiring and or the alternator is bad. He ordered a new one from the dealer and it had three terminals to hook up( plus the bat. conn.) vs the two on his original. Does anyone know the function of the various terminals so that we can figure out what has been done to screw this up and fix it. At least one connection is hooked in series with the fuel shut off.

we need more info like what brand dozer and brand of alternator or at least a pic of alt.

Looks like a delco, came with a cummins label and part # I have not actually seen it myself except from a distance.( long story ). The guy is my boss and I would like to help him out, just really short on info.

If it would happen to be a delco 10 or 15 SI the third terminal would be used for a relay or a tachometer in some applications. Number one is to activate alt, number two is voltage regulator sense lead. Third one not used most of the time. Just guessing on model.
