styled JD A?

Looking to buy a 1947 JD A. What is the difference between a styled and unstyled JD? Does styled mean it has a fresh coat of lipstick? What do you think one is worth that has been painted and overhauled? Any idea how much it weighs? Thanks in advance. George

That means a bunch.......however a 1947 John Deere was ........STYLED.
1937 would have been a unstyled .1927 would have been a wish.......

Styled means it has a hood and has nothing to do with paint or condition.

47 A weighs approximately 5,000 pounds.

"Styled" also has the characteristic wrap-around grill made of sheet metal, with horizontal bars. Unstyled just had the cast-iron radiator with John Deere cast into it across the top, like many earlier tractors of other brands (Hart Parr, Fordson, etc.).

OK, what is it worth? Overhauled, painted, no oil leaks, good tires? Also, what is the purpose of the small gas tank? It has a leak. Can you purchase a small tank?

Back in the day they ran tractors on "distillate"- a component of refining crude oil. Heavier than gasoline, lighter than diesel- so it would run in a spark combustion engine, but not "hot" enough to start it. Little tank is for gasoline to start the thing, then switch over to distillate. Not necessary anymore, as distillate is no longer around. Just paint it up and don't put anything in it, and the leak will not be bothersome at all.

Valuation of 2 banger JD's is above my paygrade. Or maybe below, I don't know.

It's real hard to value without seeing it.It also depends on wear and wether it has a lift , drawbar , electric start or other options.Have seen a good used one go for $1500 and have seen restored tractors priced at $5000 to $6000.So prices vary widely.

Big question what is the serial number? Early 47 A would be a angle iron type frame with an open flywheel and be made only as a all fuel low compression tractor. Late 47 would be a pressed steel frame with closed flywheel and could be either a all fuel low compression tractor or a gas tractor with higher compression. Early would not have roll-a matic and later could be either. Early could be either hand start or with starter, later only with starter. Early could be no hydrolics, power lift or power troll, later only power lift or power troll. Pressed steel or cast rear wheels, either could have either. Early would be 6 volt system, late 12 volt system. 6 volt battery in dash, 12 volt battery under seat in box.

The tractor does have hydraulics, pressed frame and 12v. Does that increase the value?
