My Daughter has an old Case 400 she found at a farm sale...worked fine for a couple years and this winter started having a problem. The tractor would start fine, but when you let out the clutch, it would kill the motor. I drained the diffrential, as it had some water in it. i thought maybe the bull gear was froze. Put new oil in and now it is the same. Starts, runs, but when you try either forward or reverse--kills the motor. Any ideas??

Has it ben warm enough where you are to melt the big block of ice that might be in the bottom of the rearend? Had an Oliver 70 that did that. Leaked water in around a bad shift boot. I had to skid it in the shop, take out the drain plug and put the salamander heater right up behind it for several hours to melt the ice out of it.
