fundraising help

I'm involved in a local threshing club and we are trying to pay off some land that we have bought. Some ways are fish fry's, soup suppers, tractor pulls, tractor raffles. Are there any other ideas that you have used or heard about that may work. Raffles at the food fundraisers will help but I am low on raffle ideas too. The area is mostly just small towns and I hate to "go to the well" too often but there are bils to pay. Any help would be appreciated.

How much land? grow some corn, wheat or soybeans on it. Maybe some hay. All free labor and machine hire. Get local COOP and seed dealers to help with input.

Have you considered a tractor drive? I have heard of some pretty good sized ones. Ours was a small one. Did not have a lot of tractors. Did not bring in a lot of money. Did not cost a lot either. Did attract a lot of attention, and what I consider goodwill. Plan on going to go for it another year. Another thing that does pretty good around here is a Mud Run. A promoter puts it on, he bears the expenses of the event. The Volunteer Fire Dept involved gets the concession. For that you can do hot dogs hamburgers popcorn pop ice cream or what ever. A cake and pie auction did pretty good for us along with a chili supper. Make whatever you do a community type affair. I have seen everything raffled from riding lawn mowers to weed-eaters, rings rifles, gift certificates even a beef.

I was involved with a fund raiser for our church a couple of years back. Two of us came up with the idea of collecting scrap metal, we raised NZ$28,000. with people donating scrap metal and lead acid batteries. The price of scrap was good then, don't know what it is now, but it might be worth considering. It took a fair bit of work, old engines etc were stripped and the aluminium sent in seperate, light and heavy was sorted before taking it in, this maximised the price for us. Hope this helps and good luck with your cause.

I have seen guys that couldn't squeeze a nickel outta buy whole books of tickets when a gun was raffled off.

The land is roughly 7 acres on the edge of town to hold our threshing show. We plant oats for the threshing, some corn for the corn binding, and some weeds for mowing demonstrations, lol. We do sell off the oats, the corn doesn't add up to much. Maybe the tractor drive is the way to go as we only have about 10 members. Bought the land for about 11,000 and only owe 1500 now but help is always an issue, even though these guys are better than most about helping and stepping up to take on responsibilities.

Local FFA Alumni started a tractor drive 2 years ago. 42 tractors 1st year---63 2nd year. We cleared $2000. Not bad for a day of work and fun. Money goes to scolarships for local FFA chapter. Charged $25 per driver/tractor and had help from local businesses with raffle prizes and meal.

There was one where each day of the month a name was drawn and you won $50-$500 or a prize. They sold tickets and it was called a calender raffle. It was very popular!!

for years now we have been smoking boston butts for a fundraiser. Depends how much people around your area like bbq. We pay <> 10 bucks per but and spend 10 hours smoking them and sell for 30 bucks. Yield <> 8 pounds of smoked roasted pulled pork. Most places around here get $8 for a pound. We also sell BBQ plates for$7 (cost about 2$ and deliveer them to the business, We sell the plates to business owners who generally buy for all the emplyees and butts go to mostly individuals We smoke from 200-300 each year in two days in 3 smokers each holding about 35 butts. Make over 5 grand if done right and people are well satisfied becasue everyone is a winner, and the meat is excellent.

Your club only has 10 members and your purchasing land? I think I would be more worried about membership drives?

RFdeere you're right about the membership drive for sure. Like I said we have some great guys that make up for the lack of numbers. A calender raffle sounds interesting. Can you buy tickets year round or do you only sell themthe previous year? We have raffled off a pedal tractor for a number of years usuall goes over well. Food sales are handled by the local community club. The show is a one day event with a parade, food, kids games handled by community club. Engine show tractor show and threshing handled by our outfit. town of about 300 draws about 2000 to 2500 people. admission to the threshing is free it has been brought up maybe charge a donation to get or will this hurt us?

Depends on the target audience and attitude/creativity. Everyone has a dollar if it's for a good cause.
I've raised a couple hundred bucks by raffling a beer or drink of the winner's choice. Most people buy tickets just to support the cause with no expectation of winning. Prizes don't have to be expensive (car wash coupon, side of bacon, etc) or can be a tractor. Main thing is the cause, if it's to support your organization, and your organization is known to support the community, it's just as good a cause. Sometimes people detail themselves out of good ideas.
