Just coincidence that I got my property tax receipts the same day as flying belgian posted about his dog...
In WI, it's $5 for each spayed/neutered (I think $10 if not) dog, due when you pay the first half of your property taxes. Always annoyed me - just one more tax, and one that doesn't affect owners of other pets. My German shepherd died last July, so I sent a note with my tax payment saying I didn't need a dog license and didn't have to pay the $5. In with my receipts is an "Affidavit of Death or Disposal of Dog" that I have to fill out and return. Supposed to be notarized, too. This is pathetic. What a waste of time (and paper), just to keep a few people from possably cheating the state out of $5-10. Think I better be sending a email to Madison...

The treasurer made the mistake ONE TIME of asking me if I had a dog. As chairman of board of review, she has more sense than ask me such a thing again now! As far as them knowing if you have one or not,I've got a letter right here in the safe from the Atty Generals office that says you can be fined for having an unlicensed dog IF the dog is visable from the road or the driveway. They all have the good sense not to get out of their car to look for one again.

Yep just another way for the gov. to waste money since in the long run it will cost more in man hours to do all the paper work then they would get from that stupidity tax.

in WI it is not the state that charges you it's your county it's a county dog tax and ours is 3.00 for fixed and 5.00 if not

What you do is drop off the carcas in front of the city hall (or whereever you got the letter from)
Saying "Here is proof that Rover is dead"

After the body has rigamortis for a couple days and smells real ripe.

Thats why they don't know about my dog. Its not like $5 dollars is alot but just the point of it being a stupid tax.

So wouldn't they have to have an "Authorized" and notarized affadavit of acquisition or purchase " for the dog?
Just because someone sees a dog on my propwety doesn't mean it is my dog.
Anyone that pays that tax is dumber than the people trying to collect it.

I'd tell them it isn't a dog, funny looking coyote and therefore is considered wildlife and the responsibility of the state.

Tell em that you can't help it the danged thing keeps hanging around your house.

Our pet tax (licenses fee) comes in the form of a rabies shot. While my vet gives my dog a rabies shot that is good for 3 years state law requires I get the shot yearly to insure they get the parish gets their fee.

While I can still buy the shot at the local feed store they do not have the state tag anymore.

I dont have my dogs licensed either but then I don't let them drive much anyhow, at least not out on the public roads!

My wife has had a boarding, breeding, grooming operation here for 13 yrs.We liquidated the business last year.Shes been fighting and arguing the town clerk over dog licenses and permits the whole time. Its a never ending battle. We went from over 30 dogs (personaly owned)to 10.They come down every year and inspect property and count dogs, kennels and even AKC registration papers.Sometimes I want to just move back to the ghetto in the city and say the haii with it,
