New Dog. Yea.

Last fall I posted how my long time companion dog got on the scent of a coyote and chased it across busy hyway and got killed by car. I really loved that dog. Took this long for me to get over that and start searching for a new companion. That was then and this is now. Picked up my new 14 mo. mixed border collie and springer cross female yesterday. Nice dog. Think we are really going to make a great teem. Today we are trying to learn each others habits. Name is Bailey and I will keep you up on progress from time to time. Wish I would take the time to learn how to post pictures But I am guilty of being lazy in that dept.

Congratulations on the new friend.

When I was a kid, we never had a pet that met a peaceful end. I vowed that I would never get a pet.

A few years after I got married, my mother asked me to take in a stray that was living behind her house. He was obviously abandoned and turned out to be a nice guy. Later we got a kitten to keep him company. As long as they were both alive, they never did get along!

Eventually, got a black lab. He was wonderful. He died about 6 years ago. I just couldn't bring myself to replace him. I told everyone that it was for economic reasons.

This last spring my youngest daughter wanted a dog of her own. Someone was giving away a Great Dane/Bull Mastiff female. I gave her the okay, as long as she paid for the feed. So far so good. But that dog is a nut!

Also in the last year we were given two Great Pyrenees. A male and a female. The female had been abandoned and probably been abused. She and I are now great friends, though she looks to be at least 9 or 10 years old. The way she gets around looks like I feel sometime, so I can empathize with her. The male Great Pyrenees earns his keep roaming the farm at night. We haven't lost a single chicken since he has been on duty!

Sorry about the long reply. I guess the topic just touched a cord.

Well, hope you have a long time to spend with your new friend.

Christopher

Glad you found a good one. I'll probably be looking for a pup before too long - I've been without a dog since last July. Never been without one that long.

Good for you I hate loosing dogs. Every one Ive brought home has died of old age and is in the stone row watching the farm.Last one is a Yellow lab and Basset hound mix. Best bird dog Ive ever had. Except his short legs hinder him somewhat. If you shaved him he would look like a 100 lb pig

I do know your pain, after a lifetime of Labs, and the dedication,I know how long it takes to grieve when you lose your friend. As you know my friend,it takes time.

Glad to know you have a new friend and no matter what will always greet you and be happy to see you.I'm glad we have dogs

We had a shepherd mix named "Whitey" for many years. When he started having trouble getting around, my vet put him on a supplement for dogs called "geriatric formula". It made a huge difference. You might ask your vet about it.

Adopt an orphan, sometime some of the best were just misunderstood. This one wouldn't ride in a pickup but otherwise a great dog.

Heres my buddy named CAMO, he's Austrilain Shepherd, lab mix. with me 24/7 at my muffler shop and home. Tries to herd my cows and horses.
See if the pic works, just got a camera so i came upload my farm photos

After we lost Buddy last spring, we adopted Sam here from the Moncton SPCA. He's 1/2 Corgi, and 1/2 something else, I suspect Husky.
Hopefully we can keep him away from the highway. He likes the horse, although she doesn't like him too much, and already tuned him up once. I just hope he learned something from that. He's just a really happy guy though, and great company.

My wife showed, bred, groomed, trained many breeds for 25yrs.Due to health and financial reasons we have been cullin the litter(so to speak). We have a outstanding Rottwieler we are trying to place.Hes bout 5-6yrs old(Ithink, wife knows for sure).Anybody interested e-mail to me.If you might be interested in a lap dog breed we have 3 Hairless Chinese Crested for adoption also. Now I know they always win the ugly dog contest. But let me tell ya what.these are the coolest dogs. When my wife brought the first one home years ago,I was like,What in the heii is that.Well I have become so attatched to them, they have so much character.
I might get tagged here trying to adopt off dogs on this site.I apologize if I offend anybody. But we really need to find homes for these dogs

Thanks
Stan

Well, Here is a photo of the puppy I picked up in October of 2008. She was born July 31, 2008. Breed: French Mastiff aka Dogue De Bordeaux. By far the best dog I have ever owned. Has to be part of everything you know..

I could never get the hang of posting pictures using photo bucket, etc, but then about a month ago someone on here pointed out the "upload picture" note at the bottom left of this page. I wasn't sure of what I was doing, but posted a picture the first time. Got to write down the number of your picture and where it is so you can type it in the box. If I can do it, you can too!!

I guess we've had dogs for our entire married life. Raised St.Bernards for a long time, now just have a mutt. It's been said, if you want to know who loves you the most, put your wife and your dog in the trunk of your car for an hour & see which one kisses you when you open it. It's obvious I never tried it, I'm still alive. Loved the pics. Keith

Yeah Dean that lesson worked for me too.

Here's 2 of our 3 getting indoor excersize from my daughter's "Doogie" laser pointer!

Last, but not least, here's our little dog after a nap. My wife picked him up as a stray and has been the best little dog - Loves to go to tractor pulls (Just to keep this tractor related!)

Neighbors have one of the french mastiffs. Talk about a clown...

Here's my best girl. Soul purpose in life is to be where I am. She'll get in the pasture with a few horses and worry them and herself to death until they are sorted and positioned the way she thinks they should be, then just walks in circles around them to keep things tidy.

My first Border Collie did not like to ride in my truck,he was afraid of it.I had him for 10 years, still miss him.Brought home a new Border Collie pup the next day.Gus loves to ride.He watches me and gets excited when I put on my good jacket or put my glasses in my pocket. He knows the word ride ,truck or go to the store.I have not had many dogs over the years but the Border Collies are tops.He will get excited if I put my check book in my overall pocket.
