Would someone tell me why?

Would someone please tell me why there many non tractor related topics on this sight, however if you bring up what is happening with the weather, and what farmer doesn't like talking about something they have no control over, it is poofed? ie don't mention G#B@L Warming.

I find many of the OT items quite informitive and besides we have other interests other than just "tractor talk". When was the last time you was a a tractor show, pull, round table discussions at the local cafe and the only thing talked about was tractors.

So..........if I understand correctly, you've made an off-topic post, complaining about off-topic posts???

Larry: pass the donuts, you want another cup of coffee,
I just could not help myself,I just had to do it.

Some topics bring out bad languge, or get very loud & boistrious, or someone gets to calling someone else names, etc.

Then it gets complained about, and it goes away.

This place used to be moderated very tightly.

The last year or 2, its much more hands off, only messages that get complaints go away.

Tractor related messages that stay calm remain.

Off-topic messages are very random - complain to the moderator & they go away, no one complains and they stay.

Perhaps not 'fair' as far as left or right, a certain topic staying or leaving, but how it seems it works?

No one has any idea why their post get poofed???

I personaly do not understand why they let some folks post on here period.

I think the way some folks post here gives us a clear picture why thy have no one else to talk to in real life.

The politics get into --everyone else is stupid except the ones who think like me?????

Most everyone else understands the poof, it seems the rules are pretty straight forward.

Not always is the original post the problem, just the experts viewing their very high opinion of their thoughts.

Why does everyone not respect the use of this site? We are guests, and have a few very simple rules to follow.

It makes me wonder how many times some of these folks have been smacked up side the head, or avoided in their home town?

Often it seems like a school play ground with kids ganging up on one to prove how tough they are.

By the way one guy on this board isn't as tough as some of us think---Why just the other night twenty five of us jumped him from behind, and we darn near whooped him.

Everyone needs to lighten up, repect each other, and thank the owners of this board for the gift they provide.

I don't know. But as far as "global warming", nothing is more appropriate for crop talk than the weather. We all know we can do our best, and the weather will make or break you. So anything about weather I think is fair game.
Another example I can think of are firearms. They are certainly tools, just like this computer, and most everything else I have around here! It would be interesting to know then if topics were more thoughtfully allocated and labeled, if they would survive longer.

Not complaining, I'm trying to understand the politics of this sight. I had a teacher once say that everything is politics and politics is everything. Seems to apply here too. Yes I'm grateful for the sight. I've found it to be very helpful and so is buying parts from YT.com

Amen. A little tolerance goes a long way. I get a kick outta the keyboard commandos. Probably the guys that got picked on in school.

Uh....? Isn't THIS THREAD "off topic"? Why complain about non tractor related post's in a non tractor related post?

House rules are posted- politics and religion cause trouble so don't post them, other Off Topics in limited use are OK. Boards are subject seperated, Talers covers a lot- Like Matts' love life. The newOTboard run by other than YTmag covers the cussin subjects- Atoz tries to keep the religion issues away from Church of Satan. Simple enough rules to follow. RN.

What can I ad. It's a pretty d@mned boring day when there aren't a lot of non tractor related topics. This is a community. If you don't like it in this one, move somewhere else.

There are tons of posts about tractors under the manufacturers sections. There are some on here too as well as other general topics. Some topics bring out the worst in people... and get poofed as they should. Dave

My opinion-I have my own daily issues, as some others have said, it takes my mind off of things for a while. Some OT's are and can be quite informational. There is a vast amount of people and wealth of knowledge on this site. If you read the topic subject and it does not sound like it's your cup of tea, don't open it! "Common sense" goes along ways! If I have a question about my Super C I go to the farmall discussion board... My 2 cents worth. Have a good day SMH.

its not poofed, if it is farm related, and everybody plays nice, for example talking about putting a heater in your farm shop is farm related, talking about nnalert and nnalert is not , unless you consider both partys as cow plop, just from different cows, ot's are thick because most farmers here are up to their south end in snow right now, talking about something beats daytime cable tv as long as all play nice here

Just be calm and it will be back to normal when spring rolls around, I been on here a few years it's the same every winter. If you read the funny paper the answer is in PICKLES Jan 28th. Just let the sun come out and you can pick on your tractor instead of oneanother!

Sometimes the tractor bucket runs dry.I like the farm related topics and pictures. You can see and learn alot of things on here .So let the farm related topics come and keep the politics away.If you want that turn on CNN .You can filter out what you want to read anyways. With one quick click of the mouse.

Visiting this site is like going to a tractor or engine show. We go because we get a kick out of mechanical stuff related to the farm. While we are there we run on to friends and acquaintances and start discussing everything under the sun. Sometimes it even involves machinery discussions. We don't often spend the whole day talking about the technical aspects of machinery.

If we happen to spot someone we would rather not get involved with because of his offbeat attitude we turn and go the other direction. We have that option here too. Jim

I like the tractor posts, I like the tool posts, I like the OT posts, I like the various manufactors posts,I like tractor tales, I like this site, I miss Joe. Just because he was such a lunatic.

I love this site, I learn allot of things that I never knew and I hope that I have passed on the same to people that I have responded to. We laugh, disagree and learn from each other. The different forms are great to find certain information about a brand of equipment. Were else can you locally find the wealth of information that you can find here on this site? Maybe an off topic now and when is good for the soul and maybe open someones mind to something new. WHO knows Bandit

The reason I like this site and a lot of the OT stuff (even about politics) is that where else can you go and hear the thoughts and comments from REAL people? Not the talking heads on TV or the politicians who purport to speak for the "little guy" or the "working man". There are regulars on here from Coast to Coast, Canada (particularly fond of RodinNS) and even Dave2 in Germany. It's interesting to hear their opinions on how they handle tractor dealers, starting tractors on cold morning or what they think of the world today. The economy, what our politicians do, etc. affects ALL of us in one way or another. Lots of good common sense in this community. I wish our "leaders" in government would read these threads.

I agree that threads that degrade into name calling or "so's your mother" kind of stuff doesn't belong, but insightful comments on what people think of Global Warming, the Stimulus, etc. I think are perfectly legit. And if I see an OT topic that rubs me the wrong way, I just ignore it.

Anyway, I hope the moderators lighten up a little and at least let some of the OT threads linger a little longer until I get a chance to read them. I do think that they should eventually be "poofed" so that they don't clog up the archives with a lot of stuff that isn't worth searching through.

Family! Need I say more.

Kids have Twitter, text messages, IM. We have a common connection here. A friendly Place.

I do not read everything that people post. I pick and chose what I want to read. Your post did not indicate at all what you wanted to talk about, but I opened it anyway. I wish the moderators would make all posts that did not clearly state what the thread was about, to disappear. But that is my opinion which is worth as much as every other persons opinion.
