new tractor

Congratulations to him!!!

But I think that he should be taught that it is a tool and a piece of equipment rather that a toy.

Joe- you sound a lot like MNJoe. Get a new handle? I have 8 tractors- all toys. I think Jon is capable of raising his own child without your input.

when I was that age I wantrd a 410 gauge shotgun to go hunting with my dad got me a 12 gauge shotgun . Did your son want a Cub and you got him an H ? He wil do well an H is a nice tractor easy to drive and not clumbsy like some of the older tractors.

I have two boys and two H's. As far as a tool or toy? Even the excitement of a new torque wrench can make using it like playing with a new toy.

Every time I sit in the seat of an H or 300 to rake hay or pull a two bottom plow, it is hard to believe that I am working. However I normally use a JD 9520T and pull a 32' JD disk or 40' Wilrich Quad Five field cultivator. Using GPS auto steer, with an air conditioned cab, and a cd player my job is still allot like playing.

I wish him a long and healthy relationship with his tractor. I have a couple of things I would like to send him. I make a couple of accessories that are nice in parades or for show. My nine year old could not set the brakes on his so I made a little something to help him. I have been selling them on ebay and I would like to give one to your son. If you think he will put in a parade or show the tractor I also have a flag holder that goes on the grill.

Here is my email, send me your address and I will send you one.

An 11 year old boy has no business with a tractor he thinks of as a toy unless it's made by Ertl.
That being said many of us were younger than that when we started driving tractors by many manufactures including the H. I don't however remember ever thinking of my Dads tractor as a "toy" (worn out word). I sincerely hope he doesn't hurt himself or someone else with his "toy".

I bought my first tractor, a farmall M at seventeen. I'm twenty now, it's a great learning experience and is alot of fun. He will have fun with it. Im hooked now and got five farmalls. I'm sure he will get the fever too.

Good for him. I was 11 when I bough my first tractor. An Allis Chalmers B. I worked darn hard for the money to buy it. It came with a cordwood saw, but dad removed it so I wouldn't be tempted to use it without his supervision. I later traded it for a WD. I know where the B is, but the owner doesn't want to sell it. I told him if he ever does, name his price and we'll go from there.

That is awesome! Good for him and you. Really a great hobby to be using your hands and brain power to work on it and not just playing a video game like so many kids his age do.

congrats on the H. My first tractor was a B JD. Had so much power I used it to pull dead chickens our of the chicken house, but had to cut them in 1/2 first. It was powerless.

i had a tractor once that was so in need of an overhaul-it only had nuff power to turn one wheel at a time-so all it would do is go in a circle--dizzy thing
