Went to crank the 5th wheel stock trailer up to unhook from truck and it only raised 1/2 inch and gears started stripping. Ground the top off and did not see a problem. It must be down in the stem. Can they be repaired or do I have to grind it out of there. Welded to trailer in a lot of places. Says Stallion on it and made in Chickasha, OK..

There isn't much more than a big nut inside the thing, and it's usually attached to the moving part of the jack so there's not much you can really fix. Too the little anti-rotation impression keeps it from coming apart without more than a little effort. So, if it's stripped you might as well plan on cutting it loose and getting a new one.

If you find a jack that is the same brand or that the leg size is the same, you can just disassemble the jack (there is a pin that is in the gear that is on the handle rod. It drives out and the bottom gear just lifts out. remove the pin under the bottom gear and the leg of the jack just drops out) Raise the trailer up drop the bottom out of the jack. Then slide the bottom of the new jack in and reassemble the gears. This way you don't have to do all the cutting and welding. good luck
