a question for any of the older ones here. Prior to the 1930's especially in rural areas many mothers gave birth at home away from doctors and others who would have made a birth certificate. how then have some of these obtained official documents such as passports , dl, Social security benifits. I know my uncle had problems proving who he was later in life. Also his sister was born in russia when they were on the run or in hiding. Thanks Paul

Here you have to get all the school records you can and have them varified by someone. Plus any church records (baptism, confirmation, marriage license, etc.) and send it to the officials at the capitol. There is a charge per copy.

at one time you could take in the family bible and show that the birth was written in it. Other documentation such as school records, military records. work records should be of help

Townships have had "registrars of vital statistics" for as long as there have been townships. We still have one. Kind of a left over redundancy, but our 80 year old former long time clerk takes his post very seriously. He makes sure any births, deaths, marriages, etc. get passed on to the county if no one else does.

My mother needed some proof of her birth date in the State of Georgia and the county ordinary had her get 3 people to swear that they knew what year she was born.

my father didnt have a birth certificate...when he applied for a passport,he showed his school records and his DD-214...no problem.

I think you would be better served by going to the State Authorities for the correct gen.Is there a Registrar of Births, Marriages and Deaths in your area???
