Presidents wife on TV to night asking people to text to a number so as to send $10 to help people in the earth quack area. That I agree with but since what they get in a month is 1 if not 2 or 3 times what I get in a year why don't they show use how they have paid in to help. Sorry but isn't it only right if they ask for $$ that they should show how they have helped before they ask me to help/ Ya I'm ------ off at the V.A. and the gov over things and yes this will most like get deleted in a few hours

Was just watching the 2nd to last night of Conan on The Tonight Show.

He & Robin Willians were complaining about how poorly Conan was treated by NBC.

And then mentioned how Robin Williams had a fund for Haiti that we all should donate to.

Robin Williams is not a poor man, and Conan just got paid $33 million dollars to do nothing & no real restricions on what he does next. A 33 million dollar reward for having such poor ratings he has to be replaced....

Wonder how much of his 33 million _he_ is choosing to donate?????

I see these celebraties on TV all the time begging for a dollar here and a dollar theree to feed the "poor" kids for just $9 a year. I often wonder how many of the kids could be fed and for how long, using just the money spent paying the celebraty and just in general making the commercial.

What gets me this time is that I have to ask myself what have the Hatians ever done for us? Personally I've been through two house fires in my life, and lost everything I owned in the second one. Where was the government or Hati's government when I needed help. Don't get me wrong I feel sorry for those folks but it kills me to see our even a penny of our tax money being spent on another country when every penny available is needed right here at home.

To make matters worse I look at sites like Government Liquidation.com and see all of the "surplus" tents just sitting around waiting to get bought for pennies on the dollar. If we, as a country are going to help then instead of wasting millions of dollars on new equipment, etc, why not take some of those off the auction block and send them down for the people to use for shelter? I guess to our government waste makes alot of sense, so to add even more on top of what's already being wasted just makes even more sense, especially when you can say it was for humanitarian reasons.......
Ready made shelters just waiting for use.....

I saw yesterday that John Edwards was going over there . They dont need him or some movie stars that seem to think they know everything running around getting there picture took , if ya did nt bring a pair of gloves and plan on getting dirty then stay home . I m with NCWayne , lets send our used and out dated surplus , when you are starting from scrach it will work just fine . What really gets me is the money , WE DONT HAVE ANY !!! We have to borrow it from china to keep the lights on at the Obamy house , how can we send millions over there .

I am certainly NOT an external_link fan but in truth they did contribute, from their own funds, $15,000.00, I believe. Fair is fair, after all. And some of these high priced celebs have contributed also, from their own funds. Several million dollars. And when you take a country like Haiti that doesn't even quaslify as a 4th world country, and then has a calamity like this earthquake, even I have contributed, and that takes alot. Oh and thank you Pat Robertson for declaring that they got what they deserved. Now there's a good christain attitude!

As Rush said (and was soundly criticized for) "don't send a dime to the US government". Send it to your favorite charity instead. Otherwise, you'll end up on a nnalert party mailing list for donations. Besides, we provide money to the US government in the form of taxes.

Nobamas donated $15,000, true. Not a bad donation for someone living in public housing. Lets analyze, a little further. Last year nobamas were worth 10,255,781. So his donation was 0.001 of his net worth. Now say my net worth was 500,000, to equal nobamas donation, all i have to give is $500.

Oh, and Pat Robertson, to spite his stupid utterance, has given far more $ to the people of haiti than nobama. I didn't google the figure, but if I am wrong that its over $15,000, Lord I apologize...

Agree 100%. The govt is donating money we DON'T have. And I agree that Conan and Robin should tell everyone how much THEY are donating. Instead, they'll show up on this telethon tonite, then claim a tax deduction to charity at what they would normally get for a concert. (Probably more money than any on this forum make in a year). No, I'll skip the donations. I had $7 in my checking acct to last a week until this last payday with a layoff looming like a dark cloud. Granted, wife and I have lived frugally and have savings to fall back on for just these sorts of situations, so I'm not complaining, just explaining why I'm keeping my wallet closed.

Let's be absolutely clear, here. Pat Robertson has hurt far more people--by extracting from the poor and stupid via his "ministries" money that most of them should have been spending on their own problems---and adding that money to his incredible empire, which, even though hidden in the cloak of "religious tax exemptions" is, after all, his empire, which allows him and his staff off "followers" to live high on the hog.

I sure as hell do know, I've spent some time investigating him. He's politically motivated, and certainly not the relatively honest person that Billy Graham always seemed to be.

Old, are you saying you are envious of Haitians? 99.999 percent of Haitians would kill to have your standard of living. In fact, many of them die every year trying to get to the US. And this was before their homes were demolished by an earthquake.

Count your blessings and stop complaining. You're a fortunate man to live in a country as wealthy and generous as ours.

So will you give $500? For some reason I doubt it. And by the way, she wasn't asking for $500 from everyone, she asked for $10. You know what most people spend on cigarettes or alcohol for a day.

While the external_links did donate $15,000.00 to the Haitians,... they must have considered the Rev. Wright a much more worthy "cause", because they donated the hate-speech preacher a whopping $27,000.00 last year.
