Politics can lead to nasty comments-- so policy of board is 'let's not go there'. A occasionly pun on politics can stay a day or so-- but current events disgusting (<--see what I mean about puns) discussions goes to never-never land. Was fun while it lasted. RN

Agree with RN. I enjoy reading the OT stuff. I liken this forum to the online version of the pickle barrel at the general store of yesteryear. I don't see the problem with letting people with similar interests (Tractors) talk about other topics like politics. If people are offended by it, just don't read anything with OT. There are many topics that I can't decipher the topic from the subject line until I open the post. If it doesn't interest me or I consider stupid, I just close the post and don't go back to the thread again. No big deal. Just don't understand the whole POOF thing.

The poof isn't about us offending each other. It's about web searches bringing people here when searches are done for things that the owners of this site don't want associated with their business. That business being,selling tractor parts. No more complicated than that.

I thought the last post I started (the continuation of another poofed post) actually had some good conversation going.

I sometimes don't understand why some things are left up for a few days, and others are taken down right away - when the subject is almost the same.

In fact, when the subject is political, but all the posters are in agreement, the post never gets taken down. Some of those have been fairly racist about our current president. It only seems to be a problem if people are arguing.

All, in all, it's not my board, they can do whatever they want. No hard feelings.

I'm sure some posts leave quicker than others based on the time available to check. It must be a time consuming task to review all of this information - when its their job to sell parts and this sideline is not the main business.

There used to be a forum on this web site for ot and politics. It got taken off. Atoz started the "new ot forum" two years ago and does a good job of keeping the the place up, kinda hard to get kicked off and it pretty much takes a death threat to get a post poofed. There is also an ignore feature that is pretty nice, used to wish this place had one but what's his names ain't here now so no need for it. Any way, if you want to talk about the good news out of Mass, take part in the many discussions on Atoz's site and it won't go poof.

I suspect if it were a civil, open-minded debate they might stay up awhile. But these discussions so quickly turn to insults and personal attacks...see below!!! I have several forums I look at daily and this one is by far the most abrasive when these subjects subjects come up. I also frequent a couple sites for guys restoring older 2 stroke street bikes. There was a climate change discussion there a few weeks ago. Not to say that it was a "Love fest" by any means, but really all in all a good debate with both sides making an honest effort to a fair debate. Personal attacks were kept to a minimun and apologized for when caught. When motorcycle guys cant debate a subject more intelligently than tractor guys, something is amiss.

Somebody gets bent out of shape or winds up on losing side of argument an whines to the man in charge of YT boards. Sometimes it is a legit complaint due to language, etc...sometimes not.

What rrlund said is correct. The site owners have said exactly that several times. Just go to Google and type in the subject of this post. It will be the second hit you get. They do not want to loose the standings they have with the search engines.

Do you ever post over on the New OT forum?I know it has its problems but we just get something started here and its gone any more.Which is alright because they can do whatever they want.Its just that it takes a lot to get it torn down over there.

No,never went there. Last I heard a month or so ago,it was just a snake pit. Everybody mad at one certain person,insults being hurled,not much of a discussion forum by any means.

Tlak, I agree that some times things from the New OT spills over to here, but very few if any of the regulars at the new ot ever post any thing here that is politcal. They may reply to something posted here but I don't recall any of the regulars from the new ot starting any thing here political. The reason I posted the new ot here is because this is not a place for a politicaly heated discusion but it seems like one gets started every day. I agree that is not the place for it, but when one gets started every one jumps in, myself included knowing that it's going to get poofed. I come here every day to talk about tractors and general farm related topics and go to the new ot to talk politics, religon, and women.

The place is not for the thin skined, but it is just like anywhere else. I post there a good bit and while I don't agree with every one there about every thing, I have never tried to start a fight and always been delt with with respect. While there are some folks who are not the nicest you will meet most are and no one there is bad as a multi named guy who used to be here.

Well its different.What Im starting to like about it is stuff stays up.Something you wrote say 3 weeks ago will be there if you look for it.If it degenerates into some name calling I just bypass it.Some of them are really good.You might like to try it.

I dont think it would be a good idea to pay a lot of attention to some of them.You will find out who is alright and who is just mouthy fairly quick.I go over there once in a while.Yesterday there was a real good discussion of if the South had won the Civil War.There was a discussion about old time radio and some other good stuff a while back.I kind of like it.Its not like there is a whole bunch of them.I dont know the exact number,but its probably way less than 200.
