91 Chevy Pickup

I have a 91 Chevy pickup 700R4 auto trans. I overhauled the transmission to repair a fluid leak back problem . That appears to be fixed now because when shifted into 1 or R, its ready to go. Now after all that, it won't shift into 2nd. Back off on the acc. at 20MPH and it will shift to third
and go but it will not shift to OD after third either. Any good Ideas Hoping somebody will tell me its an outside adjustment.

the governor is sticking or the detent cable needs adjusting more than likely

Sometimes a trans will take a few days to get back to normal after being worked on. Also the ECM or BCM computer has to relearn program. Patience may do something. Hope.

Is the TV cable properly adjusted?

Hi Dave,

1. Fuel filter
2. Throttle cable and/or it's adjustment

Anything beyond these two items and you're going right back in 'er.

I'd start with a pressure test so you know where the problem lies rather than wasting time playing the "guessing game".
