detroit 3-53

Yes,enough power but very slow down the road. 3-53 has 53 cubic inches per cly. A 71 has 71 cubes per. multiply by the # of clys. gives the size of your engine. They are also very heavy and noisy for a 1 ton truck.

Natural aspirated two stroke 53 series Detroits will do about 26HP per cylinder at 1800rpm with N50 or C50 injectors. The 53 series will wind up to 2800rpm with the latest valve and cam follower springs. Take C60 injectors with four valve heads. Dry low restriction airfilter and low restriction exhaust. You may squeeze about 125HP from a 3-53.
The 3-71 will go 2300rpm and make about 135HP.
There were some turbo intercooled silver 3-53 and 4-53 engines laying around. Rooten tooten engines those rascals were.

Where can you get one of those.
Walt

PS all Detroits have a supper charger on them Turbo chargers are extra.

If you look in the Detroit Manuals and parts books. Non turbo Detroits are considered natural aspirated. We went through this topic 2-3 years ago.
I don't hear the term turbo super charged.

Walter:

The blowers on two stroke detroits are considered scavange blowers, not superchargers. The engines are not functional withour pressurized acavange air.

Make note that the 4-53 turns at a higher rpm and thus shows a higher hp. They both have close to the same peak torque.
Not a noticble differance in displacement.
