Update on son's hernia

First, thank you all for your prayers and also your kind words. They meant a lot.

We got him to the doctor on Saturday afternoon. It is indeed a hernia. It is not at this time dangerous. It needs to be fixed as soon as possible. The doctor gave us warning signs to look for in case it suddenly gets serious. My son has to take it easy and lay off the heavy lifting. This will be especially hard for him. Even though he is only 7, he likes to work. The harder the work, the more he seems to like it. Oh well, he must get it from somewhere.

I had a hernia for 17 years before I had it fixed. Of course 6 months later I was back in the hospital having it repaired again and they fixed the other side.

Hate if for him (and the rest of the family) that he has one but glad he was in good enough shape they sent him home.

Good to catch it early. I had both sides done when I was five (50+ years ago), and have never had any problems at all. I'm sure surgical techniques have improved in the last 50 years...

One thing I've never forgotten was the smell of ether, which they don't use any more either.

Good luck,

Keith

Glad it's not too serious.

I had both sides fixed about 12 years ago. Worst part of it was, the doctor told me not to lift over 5 pounds for two weeks. I was a half-time college student at the time and some of my text books weighed more than that.

I survived. No more problems.
