Good Gosh, there must be a lot people with money and in a good mmod in Rodgers, Tx. I take it this was a collector's auction if not I'm loading up and headin that way tonite and I'm bettin I'd have a semi load before I left the state!

Thanks for posting auction prices. Always good to know what tractor values are in current market conditions. Looks like high quality and unusual items are still pretty strong.

They had one of those high priced sales near me
last summer. The guy only sold 2 or 3 out of 15.The must have just run the bids up themselves and no one bit.

Not to offend anyone but $9700 for an SMTAD with an old M wide front end. Come on that wouldn't bring that with the original wide front end. There is a difference between fooling one person but trying to fool many becomes more of an insult. I will say though it has more of chance bringing that than a JD435 bringing $14000.IMHO

Auction I was at today they got caught doing that. There was a nice gavity flow wagon wagon with a seed auger and roll tarp for soybean seeds. A buddy of mine was wanting it and was contending bidder. After it was sold for $5000 the dad of the father/son auction team came up to my buddy and said they couldn't find the winning bidder and would he give 5 for it. My buddy said no he would give $4500, his last bid. The brother of the dead guy who's stuff was selling was behind the daddy say'n you sold it for 5 I want the 5 out of it or you sell it again and tell every one here your ring man "messed" up. Ended up my budddy gave $4500 and the auction company gave the brother $500 so they wouldn't have to resell it. I wander how many bids on the $50,000+ stuff came out of the air too?

I see an auction taking place in Rogers nearly every time I go through there on a weekend it seems. I go to Belton for the Ham Expo Spring and Fall, and have to go to the Temple V.A. 3 or 4 times a year, and I can't remember a time in the last 4-5 years I didn't see folks lining up for the auction. I've not been there for the auction, but I'm sure it is a good time. Folks here don't spend a lot on things they don't need, but WE'LL all spend what ever it takes to make us happy.

Ya'll boys for up North sure are cynical The tractors I listed were sure enough nice tractors The owner had been through a goodly number of them. Most of what I made mention of were show quality tractors, the SMTAD was just that. Wide fronts have been changed out for ever, IMO that still doesn't change the fact it was a super nice tractor that was correct in every way except for the old style front.
New paint and rubber means just that, show quality paint, not raddle can or Sucker Polish and little rubber titties on the tires! New!
There were many, many, many older non restored , good using, or take to restore tractors, that brought regular money. Plus lots of old implements too.
The figures I gave here were as honest as I can tell, no one claimed that they were catching bids off the ceiling. I as well most everyone else was watching and taking notes on most everything that sold. It was a no reserve sell.
Again as far as I can tell it was a sure enough a honest run sale, and I will stand by it till this sale is proven different. I can't speak to what goes on up North in your end of the world. This one Seemed straight up and honest run today.
OBTW Most of the tractors stayed in Texas best I could tell.

Colekicker, I belive that is right on the little Ollie 44, Yes The old feller had a lot of new tire sets, of various sizes and It seemed to me that that they were going for Retail prices.

Paul,Your seeing a junk sale there in town! This sale was about 8 miles south of town, just off of FM436. The old Farmer passed away about 2 yrs ago and the family decided to liquidate his tractor collection!

I don't think your buddy should have even paid the $4500. That price was probably ran up to. In cases like that, a good auctioneer will put it back on the block, sometimes only allowing the original legitimate bidders to bid. It is common if there is confusion to who has the winning bid or if someone tries to weasel out. I had a crawler loader in an auction but I could have a reserve bid on it. The auctioneer took care of it and I didn't have to do anything. I didn't get the reserve and since it was at the auctioneers site, I didn't even have pay anything cause it didn't sell. I had it at one of his farm auctions and did pay a little when it didn't sell but he suggested I take it to his big auction in his yard. He also had copies of all the receipts I had, so didn't think my reserve was out of line. I'd be reporting that auctioneer if I was your buddy. He might have got it for $3000. Kudo's to the brother for wanting the $5000 though. Dave

This auction out fit is known for taking bids out of the air. They had to back up a few times and start over or back up a few grand on bigger stuff already and folks were laugh"n. I think the daddy in this case thought $500 was pretty cheap price to pay for the kind of day he was having. One of the few times I have ever seen a seller stand up to this guy. This is the outfit I have fussed about on here before who started charge"n the buyer"s premium with out droping their commision rates.

I will not buy anything at one of their sales unless it is really stupid cheap, I even take my own lunch and will not buy a soft drink there. The only reason I go is to visit with folks and pick up something I can use or peddle for next to nothing.

Dave

I see tractors bring big bucks at polks auction, then later on you will see the same tractors at another auction. He buys for himself while he's auctioneering.I've seen estate sales that looked ligit, but polk had most of the tractors on his lot a week later.

John A. I certainly am not doubting the numbers you saw the machines go for and we all know collectors will flash what it takes to get what they want to complete their collection. I just discussed this very thing with an old school classmate of mine that is somewhat a major player although I think a smalltimer compared to the car auctions I"ve seen on TV. The one thing he said that I thoroughly believe is the buyer will always know who did the restoration and their integrity along with the auction house before they even think about bidding. Showroom quality means a lot of different things to alot of people to me showroom is everything from no elongated holes in the drawbar to new and correct front wheel bearings, no rust pits and correct paint and many many other items. That"s all I"m saying. I don"t know and haven"t heard of the auction house that was mentioned but it doesn"t bode well with some of the negative comments I"ve seen here about them so there needs to be some fence mending if true on their part.BTW, there was an SMTA gas narrow front advertised on photo ads as showroom quality with as stated several coats of lacquer clear coat (wrong answer)asking $12000 I don"t know if they got that or not. The point I"m making is if it was showroom then that was a bargain if not it was just another tractor with a nice paint job and new tires pretty much the same as $9700 unless the torque is bad.
