Direct T.V.

I have been with Direct T.V. for 10 or 12 years an always payed the bill on time. The other day they sent me a flyer saying for new customers they can hook up for free, up to 4 rooms, get H.D.boxes and their packages were alot cheaper than I have now. So I called them. I kept my cool. I asked for a H.D. upgrade for 1 T.V., and to lower my bill. They said For 1 box it would cost 249.00.
I told them not to be biting off the hand that feeds you. If my place was not for sale, I would have said a h?ell of alot more, but the wife wants to keep the T.V. running, and not have to do another contract. I don't understand it, of why they can't help out an old customer.

My experience with Direct TV is that they don't give anything away. In fact, the price has gone up and the selection of channels I like to watch has decreased. I haven't heard anything good about their competitor Dish or I would be a former customer now.

You are right. I've been a loyal cable t.v. customer now for over 26 years. Think they would maybe have some sort of a discount to old faithful customers when they go and offer new customers reduced prices for a year. Nope. Doesn't happen. Not to me anyway:-(

Dishnetwork & Direct both do the same crap in the regard or lack thereof for old loyal vs new customers. You want upgraded equipment, you just go to the other company until you want the next upgrade, then go back and on & on.....

Both companies need a experience of no customers. I have been a customer of direct for 10-11 years and experienced same thing. Pay the bill on time and never squawked about anything. I wanted to add another TV but would cost me big bucks. At the same time they gave a "new " customer all the goodies free.
It won't be long before I say so long Direct TV got along fine without and can learn to do it again. I suspect we are paying for the freeloaders down in Marti Graw Country and they take us for granted.

Quit and see what they say. Then perhaps a new subscription later in the wife's of children's name. With an "A" added to your address for "Apartment.
No satellite, cable or high speed TV data via an enhanced DSL phone line here. Just one big honking antenna, amp, cables, rotor and tower.

Telll them you are switching to dish tv . If they don't counter with a better offer ,follow through . We dropped them . They keep trying to get us signed up again . But we can live without it. Basic tv is good enough .I do miss some of the show though . You'd be surprised at what you can watch streaming on the internet anymore .

every 2 years switch, dish, direct ,dish, direct, you will be a new customer every 2 years when your contract runs out.

And you wonder why theres no customer service anymore??? You want them to treat you right, and not return the favor

B&D - what brand of big honking antenna and amplifier are you using?

I'm in a fringe location.

TIA

Same thing happens up here.Star Choice(Shaw Direct) will do it. Offer great deals for new customers, but once you are with them they don't give you nothing at a decent price. Star choice is awesome in customer service though.Really try to help you out. They also replace broken dishes for free and give you a new dish and installation when you move Free alignments, etc. No contracts. So you can't really complain.Bell on the other hand gives you nothing for free(or even a good deal) charge $75 for alignments, who knows what a new dish costs(likely 200+) and have terrible customer service. Hard to believe they have any customers. Bell will also do that for Cell phones. New customers pay $80 for a phone but an old customer will have to pay $200 for the same phone.

T.D.
I had the exact same situation. Started Directv when I had to buy the equipment yourself. Had been a staedy customer. My equipment was getting worn out, so called to get the treatment new customers were getting. Answer was "no way". At the same time I was having trouble with my dial up and telephone due to outdated phone lines.

Started checking around and found I could get microwave internet and T.V. so I signed up for that. No installation fee and no cost for the equipment. Now I have no rain fade on the T.V and have a 1.5MB internet connection. Worked so well I now have Vonage telephone on the same network. I now have no line connections for any of the systems..

Directv sends me a letter begging me to come back at least every month, but goes right in the wood stove.

Love my wireless system... Gene

Seems both cable & sat TV is looking at getting $70-80 a household out of the average joe, and that is where that is at. Lots of flashy deals in the ads, but if you read them careful, there are a lot of extra fees that show up right away. Free install, but each extra hookup will cost $5 or $10 a month for use, plus maybe remote charge, etc. etc.

Antennea & amp pulls in a few things from 80 miles away.

When I canceled my Dish Network a few years ago they offered free months with all movie channels and several packages that were not even listed. Got down to a few channels for $10 per month just to try to keep me. I said no. Been fine without and have lots more money to spend on other stuff.

I think your best deal would be to keep switching companies if you want the best deals like others have said.

We've been with them for about 13 years. Last year we bought a new teevee, so I called about upgrading to an HD receiver with DVR. While I was at it, I moved my billing from DirecTV to QWEST, and my cellphone billing from Verizon to QWEST. Same service, still DirecTV and Verizon accounts, just billed with my phone service. The equipment upgrade was free, since I'd been with DirecTV for over 10 years, but the service was more expensive since I had upgraded to HD and DVR, but my total bill stayed the same because I got a bundle discount from QWEST that offset the increase. I've always found DirecTV to be very helpful and to have good customer service, but then again, I haven't found much reason to call their customer service, so YMMV.

Call them up and tell the girl that you need to talk to a customer retention representative and if she says no, ask her name so you can give it to the person that wants to know why you left. They will make the deal, you just have to talk to the right person. I have added rooms, added boxes and upgraded to HD and never paid any extra to Dish( I have had to call more than one operator but but what the heck.

Winegard HD7698P antenna with the winegard amp AP-8283. Use RG-11 cable with water proofing on the connectors. Moisture inside a coax cable absorbs signal.
For a rotor I found a Yaisu ham radio antenna rotor that is rated for 5 times the weight and torque the rinky-dink TV rotors are rated for.

I just had Direct TV installed. Supposed to have free DVR upgrade, movie channels for three months free. Only thing I got was a free hook up. Then I got hit with a package I did not order. Now they tell me I have to pay my bill in full. In order to go back to the package I ordered. When my contract is up I will be a former customer.
