Looked at Another Taurus

2000 Taurus SE with 130,000 miles. 12V Flex-Fuel engine with the AX4N (good) transmission. (Was a lease, I guess they got the heavier components too)

Ran good and transmission showed no signs of problems. They (SMALL used car lot(4 cars)) are asking $2500 and keep saying the have $24-- something in it. It needs 2 tires, has rust on rear wheelwells, thinning paint on the hood, power mirrors were inoperable, 1/2 of the cruise control buttons worked, and the power window switch plate was loose/rocking in the door.

With that, it seems like NO MORE than a $2000-2200 car. The lot is banking on the fact that they can use the "Suggested Retail Price" for a car in excellent condition. This car is NOT in excellent condition.

It was a solid car that if I owned already, I would have no problem with. Buying it at this point in its life is questionable. Tell me what you think. Run, walk, wait some days and see if they loosen up?

Thanks

Looks like you have talked yourself out of it . And with good reason!!
Find one that someones grandma kept in the garage and drove to the store once a week before they put her in the home...

That car wouldn't pass state inspection here in MD unless all safety problems were corrected. That could be very expensive since they check cars very close. Hal

10 year old taurus is a 1000 dollar car no matter what someone has into it.
Keep looking. Lots and lots of them out there...

Where do you live? I want to sell you some of my waterfront property I bought in Iraq last year...

Holy cow, 2500 for a 10 year old taurus with issues? I have a 98 Intrigue with 205k I'll give away soon, with no rust and in perfect shape. And the AC works too!

Run? Yea, for sure

Wayne

As someone who has a little experience with a Taurus of that era, I would walk away from that one also. Keep looking. One will come along.

Better REALLY do your homework! There are allot of those hurricane katrina vehicles making their way around the country. With that many miles is would be considered fairly high, expecially for a rental. Rentals are not driven every day. There is something that does not sound right. No dealer is going to get 24xx into a car like that. I'd run as fast as I can away from that one.

Brother-in-law just sold late aunt's car, a 3 year old Mercury, full sized, less than 12,000 miles for $7000. That's like a new car - only on it's third oil change! I'd run from that Tarus. seems like a lot of bucks for a beat up old rusty car.
