I found this old ground driven JD manure spreader not working for $50 bucks at auction. Stripped it, painted it, found a school bus tire for it,,, new treated wood, and made a nice firewood haulin trailer out of it. Dont know what model JD it was.

Could be a model H. Looks a little longer than the one we had. I think we had an N. I pitched tons of manure into that thing on Saturdays when I was a kid. Jim

I like to see things adapted for other uses. That worked out good. I remember spreading a lot of bs with one of those when i was a kid. I also remember forking out the chicken house and filling up that same spreader. Talk about ammonia.

John Deere was always claiming that they stood behind their stuff, as in warranty. The old farmer said he bet that was one implement that John Deere would not stand behind"!

We got one like that as well.As a matter of fact I'm going to have to use it when the ground dries off.Don't know the model thou it's been on the farm a long time.Made a nice wood hauler and cheap to.Thanks for the pic

I grew up next to a chicken farm with a big chicken house. They cleaned it out every year & man! The whole neighborhood was UNLIVABLE all day. Couldn't even escape it in our houses. Gotta be one of the worst stenches in the world. Sure does make the pastures green tho.

Hey Jay, I have one exactly like that, modifications and all, except mine is completely worn out. The frame is about gone - it's hauled hundreds of loads of firewood. They make the very best firewood trailers of all, if you don't have to get on the highway. I like them because you can stand on one side and reach a chunk of wood on the other side, yet it's long enough to still hold about a pickup load of wood. And they are easy to back up. Gave $15 dollars for mine about 25 years ago. Has the original traction tires on it, and they look like ticking time bombs, ha.

that was a good idea its nice to see ideas like that instead of going to the scrap yard. If you think about it you are going green in two ways when you did that!

Neighbor fed small square bales in the field- he took the beaters off an old spreader, but left the bottom chain functional- just lined up the bales in the thing, took off the twine, and when he got to the field, put it in gear- so the hay fell out the back, one sheaf at a time. Used it for years.

It looks just like my "M" but it has spoke wheels, looks like yours has hubs.

Mine still works, have the book for it too. Haven't used it in many years but keep it around just in case.
