The saga continues.(manual hubs),Put everything back together again pulled out in driveway, wich isnt plowed,no 4wheel drive,Im stuck. That one selector switch that I took apart(free-lock)turns free, but it just doesnt have that snap in feeling the other one has. When the selector is off, the mechanism(plastic part)pushes in when selector is turned to the lock position and pulls back out when returned to the free position.Like I said it doesnt have that pop in feeling the other side has, which I havent touched.Im almost positive I have everything inside assembled right, bearing, lock nuts etc.Do both manual selectors have to work right to get any front wheel drive at all?I had 4x4 when pulled into garage, cant imagine any thing else broke sittin there.

Thanks
Stan

Yes, both sides have to be locked in for the 4x4 to work. I had a 97 ford that one side was sticking and would not engage, the other side was ok, but still no 4x4. Once i got the stuck side to free up everything worked fine. When you have cover off the hub make sure that the gear that the plastic part pushes on moves freely in and out. Jack that side of the pickup up just so the wheel is off the ground and push in on the gear, while doing this rock the wheel back and forth. You should feel the wheeel catch. Also you should be able to see the driveline trying to move when you do this. If all seems well there, then there is something wrong with the selector half of the hub.
Hope this helps.

Yup that's right. Both hubs have to work to get any front wheel action.

I may have a pair of hubs if you need them.

I also have a manual somewhere that shows the exploded view of how they go together, just in case you question if it is together right.

Don't use hardly any grease on the sliding parts. Very thin coat. Too much and it won't slide in.
