clutch adjustment

i have a farmall super a. i have to shut off the engine to shift gears. i've replaced the throw-out bearing and pilot bushing. that didnt help. the cluth plate is only 2 years old and in good shape. i've checked the linkage, it's adjusted as far as it can go. if i push the clutch pedal hard, it hits the pressure plate.
how would i know if the pressure plate is bad?

There can be worn pivots points in the P Plate that do not begin to move the plate to release position. There cann be warpage in the good looking disk that drags the disk on the PP and FW when the pedal is is all the way pushed in.
A simple check is to start it in high gear clutch pushed in, facing open territory. As you let out the clutch does it seem to begin taking off immediatly just off the bottom of the travel? if so it is likely a PP problem.
If it is softly engaging until the point it would be normally taking off, then goes strongly forward, (top 14 of travel for full engagement0 then it is probably a disk warp situstion. Jim

It sounds like you have adjusted it the wrong direction.
The clutch release bearing should engage the pressure plate at about 1/2 in. in from fully up position of Clutch pedal. Take you hand and push pedal till it stops this amount should be 1/2 in. Adjust linkage if needed. to obtain this amount.

What you are describing can happen if the fork that pushes the throwout bearing is bent. Had to replace one in a 130 (same chassis) some years ago. Look up thru the handhole in the bottom of the clutch housing and see if the fork is reasonably straight.

Had an Allis B that had this problem after swapping transmission anddrive shaft. Turned out to be a too tight fit of the pilot bearing on the end of the clutch shaft. It bound just enough to make it not release and let the clutch shaft spin free. If you shut the tractor off and started it with the clutch disengaged you could then shift OK, but if it was running you couldn't. A litle emery paper on a round dowell in the bronze bearing fixed it.
