Saw some very small, very dense bales og hay at TSC today. $13 @. 2 types, alfalfa, and a alfafa mix. Same price. Looked like really nice stuff, but $13 for such a small bale?

Is it double compressed? That makes for a pretty small dense package. I try to avoid TSC if I can so I havent seen them specifically but if it is d.c. hay thats not too bad a price. Most of the regular farm stores around here are selling regular small squares for $8-$15 depending on what it is and how it looks. D.C. hay ships so much easier since its in a smaller denser package.

Must be, it seems pretty heavy for it's size. I can buy really good hay here for $5, so I haven't tried it. Might if I get in a pinch. Very few farm stores here carry hay. Straw for bedding, yes, but no hay. Must be that there is a good supply locally. Most local growers are ex dairy guys, really know their stuff.

Kent Feeds has a deal with TSC, it may be Dynasty Forage, might even be a private label deal for TSC, If I remeber correctly I think that $12.00 is about the retail price. It is a top grade of very compressed hay, I can guarantee it won't go back in the bag once you open it! LOL

Sort of like the 7/11 selling a small bundle (5 or 6 pieces) for 4.99$.I guess if you're dumb enough to buy it they'll sell it to you.I can buy shelled corn for $10/hundred bagged up about 3 miles from farm store seling it for $7.99 for 50 lbs.So it goes

Rural King here even went to selling all their feed in 40lb bags. Price is still higher than Southern States by far, didn't go down a bit but with the smaller bags they have fewer mouse holes in them.

A former customer of mine who used to buy about a thousand bales a year, and I still see regularly, Buys "double compressed" bales now. She gets deliveries about once a month and they put it into the corner of the arena. She was having a harder and harder time getting help to unload hay up into her loft, even though she has her own elevator.

Saw the same thing at TSC yesterday. Girl was telling me it came all the way from Idaho (to Michigan), seemed real proud of that like it was a big selling point. Can't see much advantage in them. Unless you were REAL tight on space, but most people I know who own horses have more space than money.

was in a tsc yesterday place looks like a grocery store, they sell candy, toys, clothes, magazines, boots, pedal go carts. didnt see much of tractor supplies as matter of fact i think i was in that place 3 or 4 times and had to walk out empty handed, i dont know what gave me the idea that they sold tractor supplies.

The only thing that we have here at our TSC are empty shelves. Went in the other day to find a heater, and there were no heaters in stock, lots of empty shelves and the seasonal area was bare.

How heavy are they? Just wondering on how that computes to price per pound or ton. If I can get alfalfa for $5 per 50 pound bales, then those at TSC better weigh 130 pounds for $13.
