I have a 97 Chev one tonne diesel, 6.5L. Fuel gauge doesnt work. Truck runs fine. When I add fuel it wont take fuel except at a dribble. It backs up right away to the filler neck, then settles down and I can dribble more. Its odd. Truck is new to me by RB auction.

ANy ideas? Vent or something?

Sounds like two different problems. Check the filler neck and tube for kinks or damage. The inop guage could be a result of something happening to the filler.

Does your truck have 2 tanks or one - mine will do the same thing if the rear tank has fuel in it - gas gauge drops to empty when gets 1/2 tank rear tank pumps fuel to front tank, book says to fill front 1st then rear tank - don"t what the problem if you only have one tank restriction hose.

I don't know if gas and diesel tanks are the same, but we had a few tanks that done the same on gas models. What we found on one, the vent on the top of the tank was closed, not allowing any air to pass to the charcoal canister when it was being fill, thus allowing air pockets to stop the flow to the tank, after it was cleaned , it never happened again. On the other , inside the big filler hose that goes from the side of the bed to the tank, inside of it there is a anti siphon tube that also acts as a vent type tube, it was kinked and bent inside the big rubber hose, not allowing the fuel to run into the tank, sort of acting as a dam. After it was straightened, could fill the tank at any rate.As I said, can't tell if it's the same for gas or diesel, as I haven't had a diesel.

One tank only. Ah, its going to have to come out. Looks like no way around it. Thanks for all of the good input guys.
