I took apart the selector switch on my manual hub.Now when you go from free to lock the mechanism pushes in right?

Also the first bearing nut, that little pin, that lines up with the lock washer broke off?Now I been chasin down parts for this old dino for two weeks,my fingers are frost bit and Im losing patients. Its just a plow and farm truck,no plates and road driving.Am I gonna be ok or is the stuff gonna come loose and tear up the whole shaft and hub?

Thanks Stan

It would be in your best interest to find the part you need. I had the same issue about 10 years back. It did not fall off, but came loose and chewed everything up. I junked the truck because I would have needed to replace more than the old truck was worth.

Maybe by posting this some one out there has some parts that they would be willing to part with.

What year truck have you got and is it a Dana 50 with factory hubs?

Its an 89 f350,tried to determine which set up it had, seems very confusing, its the monobeam front suspension,so its a dana 50or60.Best I could come up with.Three different front ends for f350 that year I beleive.

Thanks
Stan

try summitracing dot com, you can call them, and if they don't know right off what you have or need, they will research and call you back. Jim

Are you sure the pin is broken off? A lot of times if you don't get the washer lined up perfectly it will push the pin into the nut. Try taking the first nut off and tapping the pin out from the back with a small punch. Even if it broke there may be enough left to use. Jf

Yeah your right, with my luck the pin is probably sticking into the bearing.
Thanks for the tip, guess its time to tear it apart again SIGH!!!

Man,all the times I looked at those salamander heaters and said nah I dont wanna spend the money DOH!!!

Might be faster to just go buy a pair of Warn hubs. Everything will be new and bolt right on. AutoZone or any parts store could get them.

Ever watch the parts guy pull out the "special" parts manual for these f350 beasts!New hubs for these go for anywhere from 250-400.Cant justify spending this on a field truck, dont have the money anyways.Your method has always been my answer as well, but maybey thats why Im broke now, times are tough though,so Im trying to do it the hard way and Im not liking it.I always preferred a payment book thick enough to stand on and clean my gutters versus these hassels. But like I said, thats probably why Im broke now.

Thanks for the comment anyways.

Try ebay. Far as I know there is no way to repair locking hubs. You may just have to find a way to bite the bullit. I"d make real sure the bearing washer is doing it"s job. Just FYI, the only difference between the warn standard and premium hubs is the outside cap, the guts are identical. I"ve got over 200k on the standard warn hubs I put on my F-350 about 10 years ago and no problems.

Good luck.

Ben

If just he pin is broken off, take a small punch and tap out the broken piece (the holes goes all the way through)then find a old u joint and use one of the needle bearings out of the cap. I have done this several times with no problems...I hope this helps

If its the same as our 72 Ford, actually one nut with a pin sticking out of the face of it, a washer with a bunch of holes that the pin fits into and also fits the groove in the axle stub. If its the same thing, I"ve taken a drill bit and drilled it out where the pin used to be, then cut off a part of the shank on the drill bit pushed it in and tack welded the back of the pin to the nut, Then ground down the weld and it still is working to this day. It may not be the way some would do it,but, it worked for me.As this is also used only for a plow truck and never see"s the highway anymore.Hope this helps.
