Farmall H diesel

I'm thinking the TD-6 crawler used the same size engine as H (there were T-6 gas and TD-6 diesel crawlers)- I'll bet you could get it to adapt, if you took enough parts from the crawler.

I'm pretty sure there is an all-original Farmall H diesel parked down the road from me. Dealer near me brings a lot of old tractors over from Europe (he's a Landini dealer). Last I was over there, I saw several Farmall, Massey Harris and Allis Chalmers with diesels -all European. Even has a little MH Pony with a French diesel in it.

I might have some photos buried in my computer somewhere. I've have to dig around.

Shephard had an adapter kit to put a 3 cylinder Shephard diesel in an M. Don't know if they would work in the H without a lot of modification or not if you could find one.

I remember seeing pictures of a diesel in a H that was an Isuzu or Mercedes,Thermo King diesel motor(like on a refrigerated trailer). There would need to be modifications Im sure.I dont know how much power one of those motors have but they put them in Chevy Luv pickups for a while in the 1980s.Isuzu might still make a pickup like that.

I dopnt think they ever made a 300 diesel, they made a 350 diesel

The 350 diesel engine should bolt right up

OK, its coming back to me now- and TD-9 used McCormick WD9 engine, right? W-6 and T-6 used M engine, W-4 used H- and there was no crawler with H engine. But it would have been a cute little sucker, had there been one. . .

Nope. That Isuzu used in PUPs, S10s, and Chevettes is a totally different engine then used in the Thermoking reefers. The 1.8s and 2.2s used in cars and trucks was an Isuzu gas engine converted to diesel. The reefer look similar but are totally different and share nothing.

That's why I can buy any part I want for a 2.2 liter Thermoking, but can get just about nothing for a 2.2 in an Isuzu or Chevy truck.

A Farmall 350 diesel engine should bolt in. But you are still going to have to make modifications, no way around that. Could be a fun project.

I found some of my old info on Farmalls in France. Some got French Perkins stuck into them.
Also attached an old photo of a Massey Ferguson with a Chevy 6.2 V8 diesel stuck into it. Nice thing about the 6.2 (379 c.i.) diesels is there are plenty of good running engines around for $100 or $200.

I have lots of literature on the Sheppard diesel kits to repower Farmal Ms.

The 350 diesel was a 193ci Continental no production 300 diesels were produced . Most all MF tractors produced in those days used Continental diesels like the MF35.

I did not know they were different. There are millions of reefer motors out there.Might find one cheap, but I dont know if it would work very good or not.Mercedes would be too old maybe to get parts for very well now unless ones from an Isuzu would fit.I dont know all of that just that I worked on lots of them and besides glowplugs and the refrigerator part the engines were good.If the glow plugs work and the fuel is liquid and a hot battery, its 8 degrees here right now,I bet it would start unless its wore out with no compression and it still might start then if you preheat it long enough.
