Price left me light headed

MERCY! I was just playing around on the John Deere web site. They've got a page where you can build your own tractor and get a list price on it. Just for the heck of it,I thought I'd price a 104hp 7130 MFWD. Almost $72,000! If I wanted to go with 2 wheel drive,I could have knocked off a little over $7,000. Woopie! I bought a brand new 4040 in February of 1981 for $22,900.Granted,that one was 2 wheel drive. I don't know about any of the rest of you,but I'm not making a heck of a lot more money farming these days than I was back then.

Isn't that awful! The bad thing is I doubt if any of it is made in the USA maybe assembled here. More US dollars taking flight.

While farm prices have not improved. Deere's input costs have increased over the past quarter century. Some in part to government regulations and red tape.

Not to spoil the party. Take the 4wd off the tractor and you are looking at $65k for the new tractor.

$22,900 in 2009 dollars (inflation adjusted from 1981) is $60,120.84.

Surely you can haggle $5k off the sticker price of the tractor. Not that bad of a deal when you look at it this way. Even more so that tractor today is a lot more then your 1981 model.

That is just list price. I bet if you tried you could get it bought somewhere in the middle to upper 50's. I know that isnt much better but closer to real cost.

I know the exhaust is made in Wisconsin. The Insulated tube ahead of the muffler is from Black River Falls, and the muffler is from Viroqua.

My father-in-law said he liked farming with horses because when you needed to buy more horepower your money never went very far from home, where as a tractor it went back east somewhere. Now to another country.

Our neighbor bought 4 brand new John Deere 8230 MFWD tractors fully loaded with leather, hid lighting and everything. You wouldnt believe the discount you get when you buy 2 let alone 4, It was insane how much the discount was. The price on the Deere website is overinflated by a bunch.

When I bought my wimpy 2305 deere tractor 2 years ago it was $10,800 with tire chains and a rear blade. List price for the machine alone is $10,900 + tax. So you should be able to take off 10% from the list price, on new tractor.

I bought a new CASE/IH/Farmall 90hp, 4x4 cab air radio, QA loader with bucket and bale spike, rear bale spike, and 15 ft fold up bushhog for 50K a couple of months ago. That was 5K cheaper than a Kubota and much cheaper than a NH or Deere

As long as people keep buying Deer's the price will be going up.Stop buying Deer's and the price will come down and the service will go up. Just as in the car industry.
Do you get more for your corn if you use a Deere?????

Think that's bad I was at the Gerdes Auction (Lyndon KS) on New Years day and watched a 1982 4240 with over 6000 hours sell for $26000. Granted it was a nice enough looking tractor but it was still selling at a consignment auction with lots of other equipment that was being dumped rather than repaired.

Two years ago I started pricing utility tractors in the 50 hp range.

Deere was the lowest price, so that's what I bought.

Only bummer was this model, 5303, was made in India. Designed, in fact, for the Indian market, then imported to the U.S.

2wd tractor was $17,300, + loader was a total of around $22,000.

It's been a great tractor, nary a problem, and I use it every day. First proper 'loader' tractor I've had. 3 cylinder diesel, great fuel economy, plenty of power.

To by a similar U.S. built model was like $8,000 more. I'd love to buy American, but I'm not made of money. At least Deere is an American company.

My neighbor bought a new JX 95 FWA with cab and loader. Its made in Bangladesh.I ran it several hours and it is the quickest little loader tractor Ive ever been around, and that little engine will really grunt.
