O/T Related Satellite Internet Question

I see and earlier post about satellite internet service and I have a related question.

I currently have Directv, but I see that Dish Network hawks WildBlue in the latest flyer I got in the mail. Tried to call them, but was on hold forever so I hung up.

Question is: Do they offer a 'deal' if you buy TV and Internet service from them? And if you have Dish Network, are you happy with it?

Thanks,

rather than rehash old news why don"t you do a search and check out the old answers for this same question

Not an answer, but we looked into Agristar satalite because we can get a deal through Farm Bureau. It was STILL $249 for the equipment and $59.95 a month. I think with all of them, you're limited to the number of hours a month, then the speed slows WAY down. We checked with Alltel, since we have them for cell phone service. Same $59.95 a month,no equipment to buy,no limit on time.

Wild Blue and Hugesnet are using the same technology. And, Direct TV and Dish Network sometimes offer package deals. I've yet to see one that was really worth anything. When I got my Hughesnet, it was also being offered by Direct TV as a "package." But, I was in the process of dumping Direct TV anyway. Since the digital change in over-the-air TV, we now get many HD TV channels by antenna, so no more satellite TV for us. And most of what we get is better now. No more weather reports from NYC, 200 miles away, or 100 channels of the same boring stuff.

ours works ok, but if its cloudy here it stops working, also we have to unplug and restart the black box about once every 2 weeks or so, we did get a deal, wireless internet plus hookups for 4 tv's dont remember the price it was 5 years ago

I had Wildblue for about 4 or 5 years. I just dumped them for DSL thru the local phone co. The best thing I can say about them is it's better than dial-up. Stormy weather and you loose the signal. Just before we got the DSL hooked up, they sent me a e-mail said I had used too much bandwidth and they were going to slow me down a lot. First time that happened. Had my computer checked out, and the guy said that Microsoft had some very large updates and that is probably what put me over the limit. I got WB with free install and equipment and 49.95/mo. DSL is $25/mo. I don't miss them at all. Chris

The commercials that you see on TV for satellite internet say it is "high speed". It is NOT high speed. It is faster than dial-up, but it is not high speed.

It IS high speed at times for certain uses. If you want to download a big file, once it gets going, it's usually lighting fast. Seems when focused at one target it does well. But for other things, like Web-browsing, it's pretty slow. And for uploading, often slower then dial-up. Many times I've downloaded big files faster then I could on some DSL connections.
